Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Management Coordinator to join our Environmental Sustainability Team sitting within the Estates & Facilities Department. The role will work closely with the Environmental Sustainability Manager to implement the operational elements of our Sustainability Plan, 'Striving for a Sustainable Salford'.
The successful candidate will focus on coordinating our ISO 14001/50001 certified environmental and energy management system and implementing our Waste Management Plan and circular economy initiatives. We are looking for a committed and driven individual with knowledge of a wide range of environmental and sustainability issues and demonstrable experience of their implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Co-ordinate the implementation and maintenance of the department’s Environmental & Energy Management System (EEMS) and certifications to ISO 14001 and ISO 50001.
2. Update and implement the University’s Waste Management Plan, including a programme of recycling initiatives, working with stakeholders to reduce general waste volumes and providing guidance on waste management issues.
3. Promote and facilitate the use of our resource redistribution portal providing support to members across campus to maximise re-use and circular economy opportunities.
4. Monitor waste generation, recycling data and waste contractors’ performance to ensure that environmental KPIs within contracts are measured and reported.
A bit about our department:
You will sit in the Estates and Facilities Department which looks after the operational elements of the campus including landscape and grounds management; management of our campus; capital projects, catering and conferences and events. You will therefore have the opportunity to influence a wide range of internal stakeholders to embrace sustainability issues in their day-to-day roles. You will be part of the Environmental Sustainability Team that has responsibility for sustainability within campus operations and be supported by the Environmental Sustainability Manager and Carbon and Energy Manager. As a result, we believe this is a great opportunity for the successful candidate to gain a wide range of experience and further their personal development.
