Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Hepatology
Weare looking to recruit a post-CCT fellow to join the team from April 2025 for aperiod of 12 months with the opportunity to extend further. This post will haveoncall responsibilities. This is an excellent opportunity for those interestedin specialist training in paediatric hepatology. Please note this post is notsuitable for those wishing to undertake a medical training initiative (MTI)training programme.

Thesuccessful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team involved in running asupra-regional Paediatric Hepatology, Hepatobiliary surgery, and LiverTransplant service. Leeds is one of only 3 paediatric hepatology units withinthe UK. The ward has 16 beds shared between hepatology and the regional renaland renal transplant service. PICU and all other paediatric specialities are onsite. There are subspecialty clinics in metabolic liver disease, viralhepatitis, fatty liver disease and adolescent and transitional care. Outreachclinics are held throughout the North of England and Scotland.
Theteam is led by five consultants of paediatric hepatologists together withpaediatric hepatobiliary and transplant surgeons. There are also two ST 6-8doctors on the team, and in addition doctors at ST2 or ST3 level to support theward. The department also consist of a multi-disciplinary team with specialistnurses, pharmacy, and deictic support.
Main duties of the job
Thisis a post CCT fellow. The applicant must have general paediatric or paediatrichepatology CCT or has applied for CCT. It is ideally suited to candidateswishing to pursue a long-term career in paediatric hepatology.
Thedaytime role will be based on the paediatric hepatology ward (L50). The postholder will be involved in the day-to-day management of inpatients and takepart in outpatient clinics. The post holder will be the first point of contactfor supra regional referrals. There will be opportunities to further theirtraining in practical procedures such as therapeutic endoscopy and liverbiopsy. This will include gaining experience in management of patients withacute liver failure, and those undergoing liver transplantation. The weeklyward timetable includes close supervision by consultants and severalopportunities for clinical teaching. The post-holder will have the opportunityto participate in medical audit and local/multi-centre research projects.

ThePaediatric Hepatology Department in Leeds is a National Specialist Service forthe assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of children who have a widerange of acute and chronic liver disease, intrahepatic lesions andcomplications of chronic liver disease (portal hypertension). The department is one of three nationalcentres for Paediatric Liver Transplant and has a close relationship with otherspecialties at Leeds Childrens Hospital including gastroenterology, cardiology,nephrology, haematology and oncology and rheumatology, for joint management ofmultisystem disorders.

TEACHINGAND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING
Thepost holder should have at least 3 years post-graduate experience of generalpaediatrics/paediatric hepatology. Six months of work experience in apaediatric liver intensive care unit at registrar level is mandatory. We have avery robust teaching programme that involves radiology meetings, grand rounds,junior doctor seminar, paediatric MDT, safeguarding peer review, and journalclubs on a weekly basis. We also have simulation programmes, governancemeetings monthly. The successful candidate will be encouraged to attend thesemeetings.
Wealso have year 4 medical student teaching sessions, when they are posted inPaediatrics.
Thesuccessful candidate will have a comprehensive induction programme and will beassigned a supervisor to support them during their post.

Qualifications

Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills
* Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English.
* Achieved the minimum score of 7 across all 4 of the following categories in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of appliying
* OR Achieved the minimum Grade B across all 4 of the following categories in the Occupational English Test (OET) in medicine in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application .
* Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date.
