Overview of Role
As the Librarian (Collections Project), you will help uncover hidden resources in our collection and make them discoverable to the public. You will assess and catalogue unrecorded material held at our Library store, working with a small team dedicated to supporting our colleagues and the public.
This role involves working with special collections from the 19th century onwards and requires knowledge of collection management and library cataloguing.
Key Accountabilities
* Assess material according to the Library’s Collection Development Policy.
* Manage and package collection items following LTM guidelines.
* Catalogue library collection items according to LTM instructions and international library standards.
* Organise work to meet deadlines, report on progress, and supervise Library Assistant and volunteers.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Skills
* Enthusiastic and self-motivated, able to work independently.
* Highly organised and able to prioritise workloads.
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
* Excellent IT skills, confident in Microsoft Office applications.
* Good interpersonal and written communication skills.
* Able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Knowledge
* CILIP accredited degree or equivalent relevant experience.
* Knowledge of current library practice in collection management.
* Good working knowledge of a library management system.
* Knowledge of library cataloguing standards.
* Interest in transport, history, or heritage (desirable).
Experience
* Experience in library service and cataloguing.
* Experience with special collections or in a heritage setting (desirable).
* Experience managing staff or volunteers (desirable).
