UHNM has a requirement for an AI Specialist to lead our newly established AI Team. This pivotal role will be supported by Data Scientists in the successful delivery of AI and data analytics services. The primary aim is to identify user cases within the Trust that can benefit from AI investment, secure and manage funding streams, and provide technical support for AI-driven projects and systems used by UHNM. The AI Specialist will also resolve data-related issues to maintain business continuity.
Additionally, this role will involve active participation in project implementation where appropriate. The AI Specialist will work closely with the AI Programme Manager, Data Scientists, and clinical liaison officers to deliver AI solutions across the Trust, ensuring the provision of efficient and reliable services.

As AI Specialist you will be expected to actively support the application of the “Improving Together” approach in delivering the outputs of your role.
Main duties of the job
1. Formulate the development vision and long-term strategy for AI and data analytics alongside the Head of Service Delivery that meets the Trust and IM&T digitalisation strategies as well as the requirements of the service.
2. Create, manage, and develop overarching AI/data analytics design and technical development strategies, setting out the roadmap for enhancing and updating AI systems across the Trust.
3. Make system design and technical decisions on current and new AI projects, involving and collaborating with the rest of the AI Team and stakeholders from the wider Trust Teams.
4. Work with the Head of Service Delivery to consistently move the AI service forward in terms of agility and efficiency.
5. Champion and contribute to the technical product documentation and work with AI third parties to ensure effective communication of AI changes and issues to the customer base.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Collaborate with local NHS partners across the Integrated Care System to ensure the solution design is understood as it is used widely across the local health economy by other patient-facing organisations.
2. Provide senior expert knowledge to senior management, AI team, clinical teams on AI systems approach as well as business units across the Trust on AI needs and opportunities.
3. Ensure changes made within the AI infrastructure are fit for purpose, both technically and operationally and use experience of implementing AI projects to mitigate any transition or cutover risks to patient services.
4. Work autonomously to achieve strategic objectives and set standards and work packages and tasks for others.
5. Work within Trust policies and procedures, interpret and advise changes to technical and administrative policies where required.
6. Hold budget for installation, repair, and maintenance of AI equipment.
7. Identify and commission the hardware, software, and IT infrastructure needed for a project and/or new system relating to AI infrastructure.
8. Undertake research in relevant industry standard methodologies, tools, and techniques to best meet the future demands of the Trust on AI systems.
9. Understand and advise on the direction and solution design for install and access to managed software applications specifically AI infrastructure and connectivity of devices.
10. Resolve complex issues and where necessary recommend appropriate hardware, software, or business practice changes to Trust AI infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
11. Perform investigations and implement changes to resolve issues and/or comply with user requirements.
12. Engage with staff at all levels to accurately identify project milestones, ensuring they are consistent with the Trust’s IM&T strategy.
Person specification
Qualifications
* A master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, AI, or a related field
* Evidence of continuing professional development, either academic (e.g. MSc) or in an industry standard qualification (e.g. MSCD).
* PhD in Data Science or related field
Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
* Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R, experience with AI frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch, and knowledge of data management and cloud computing
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to develop and implement machine learning models
* Prior experience in developing and delivering AI solutions, including the ability to manage data collection, cleaning, and preprocessing Experience of working with public cloud service providers Azure or AWS
* Continuous professional development in AI and machine learning techniques Network Performance Monitoring: Monitoring network performance, analysing network traffic patterns and implementing improvements in network efficiency, capacity, and quality of service (QOS)
* Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries, including TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn.
