The William Harvey is the dedicated Trauma Unit site within EKHUFT. The Trauma Unit forms part of the SELKaM Trauma Network with Kings College as the region's Trauma Centre. The ward is a diverse and multicultural learning environment. Encouraging innovation and improving the experience of our patients has and continues to be the philosophy and embedded practice of the ward.
Kings D1 ward is a 24 bedded ward, mainly dealing with silver trauma and Medicine. We will have both male and female beds, we have a multi cultural staffing.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have 24-hour responsibility for the standards of care:
* Demonstrating safe, effective and person-centred leadership to patients and staff role modelling the Trust's mission and values.
* Leading safe patient care through surgical, orthopaedic pathways.
* Work in conjunction with colleagues in surgery, medicine and ED to embed safe transfers to ward/unit areas, 'getting it right first time' to enable early supported discharges.
* Embed effective management of clinical and non-clinical risk reporting to the Manager within the Directorate Clinical Governance Framework.
The post holder will support new ways of working that emphasise a more efficient and patient-focused service, and will ensure the safe treatment, referral and discharge of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations in their area.
Responsibility for leading the ongoing development of clinical practice and standards of care within the service, including the development of policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse Degree in Nursing or working towards degree or equivalent.
* Working towards a Masters Degree.
Skills and Experience
* 2 years experience at Band 6 in a hospital setting.
* Resolving user concerns effectively.
* Continuous quality improvement.
* Experience in managing change.
* 5 years post registration experience within Surgery/Trauma & Orthopaedics or emergency care clinical settings.
* Some experience in finance management.
Governance
* On-going professional development. Clinical governance. Risk management Issues Key issues and development in nursing Change Improvement method.
* Quality Improvement tools ward metrics.
Personal/professional attributes
* Communication skills. Negotiating and influencing skills. Expert clinical skills. Facilitation skills. Staff development and empowerment.
Other requirement
* To be aware of and adhere to the Trust's Vision, Mission and Values.
* Current understanding of key issues facing the NHS both locally and Nationally.
