Job Description Position: Full-time Teaching Assistant Setting: Alternative Provision (SEMH) Age Group: 11-16 Key Responsibilities: Support for Students: Provide one-to-one or small group support for students with SEMH, adapting to individual needs. Behaviour Management: Implement strategies to help manage behavior in a positive and proactive way, ensuring students are engaged and focused on their learning. Classroom Support: Assist the class teacher with the delivery of lessons, providing extra support to students who may need it. Emotional Support: Be a positive role model, offering emotional support to students and helping them develop social and emotional skills. Record Keeping: Maintain records of students' progress and behavior, helping to track their development and highlight any additional support required. Collaboration with Staff: Work closely with other teaching assistants, teachers, and support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. Pastoral Care: Help to address personal and emotional needs of students, referring to external professionals when necessary. Desired Skills and Qualities: Experience with SEMH: Ideally, the candidate should have experience working with children or young people with SEMH, though training may be available for the right candidate. Patience & Empathy: Ability to remain patient and empathetic in challenging situations, understanding the diverse backgrounds and needs of each student. Behavior Management Skills: Ability to manage challenging behavior in a calm and constructive manner. Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with students, teachers, and external professionals. Teamwork: Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate effectively. Resilience: The role may involve working with students who exhibit complex behaviors, so resilience and adaptability are important. Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting students with SEMH, demonstrate a commitment to fostering positive relationships, and help create a safe and nurturing learning environment. A background in youth work, social work, or teaching assistant roles would be beneficial but not essential. All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
