Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust are looking for highly motivated qualified and newly qualified staff nurses to join our Gastroenterology ward (17) at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The ward is a 24 mixed bedded unit that provides care for patients with Gastroenterology and General Medical conditions.
You will be joining a dedicated and enthusiastic nursing team who will help and support you whether you are starting out in your career or have years of experience under your belt.

Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development and/or implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. As the role develops, he/she will be expected to continue with their personal development both by attending appropriate courses and day-to-day experience working on the ward, until they are able to be the designated person able to regularly take charge of the ward/department. They will then be expected to provide an effective, professional and managerial leadership focus, in the absence of the ward manager or deputy.
1. Is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care, maintaining a high standard of nursing care within the framework of Trust policies.
2. Supervises qualified and/or unqualified staff.
3. Teaches qualified and unqualified staff including basic and/or post basic students.

Person specification
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
* Good communication skills, ability to speak and write clearly in English
* Competency in IV drug administration. Infusion pump skills
* Computer literate able to complete assessments and discharge letters etc
* Knowledge of up to date nursing issues
* Extended role skills needed for work area (not exhaustive list): Male catheterisation, Passing NG tubes, Cannulation, ECG, PICC lines, Hickman Lines, Managing tracheotomies
Experience
* Newly qualified RGN
* Previous experience as shift/team leader
* Previous experience in medical or gastroenterology
* Experience of teaching students, HCA’s and qualified staff
* Ability to work within a team and independently on own initiative
* Able to coordinate and manage team in ward sister's absence
* Experience at holding unit bleep and managing HR issues in absence of head nurse/sister
Education, Qualifications & Training
* Registered Nurse (General)
* Mentorship and preceptor ship course.
* First Line Management Course
* Evidence of continued professional development (Examples listed)
* Study Days relevant to area of work and extended roles
* Customer service or equivalent
* Management of complaints
* HR study days
Special Circumstances
* High self-motivation plus ability to motivate others
* Knowledge of Research based practice
* Ability to work required shifts
