MAIN PURPOSE:
The specialty doctor in psychiatry will be particularly important during the stage of stabilisation where poly medications, unstable and volatile presentations, fragmented social networks of support need to be calmed, rationalised and soothed to be more manageable and helpful for the person.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Providing psychiatric treatment within a model of highly integrated and well-represented, neurobehavioral multi/interdisciplinary care.
* To undertake regular psychiatric reviews of People We Support in the service and work with other disciplines to provide a well-balanced model of acquired brain injury, rehabilitation and care.
* Attending all clinical team meetings; ward rounds and the other Holistic Neurobehavioural rehabilitation multi/interdisciplinary team meeting, undertaking medical interventions that are required as necessary on an individual basis.
* To take clinical leadership for cases and having a case load where the postholder develops assessments, oversees delivery of multi-disciplinary inputs, and ensures goal attainment and review meetings are held appropriately. Part of the clinical lead role is in supporting key workers for cases, preparing case summaries, assisting in formulation, preparing the medical part of CPA reports and discharge summaries that will be reviewed by the Consultant Psychiatrist.
* Arrange appropriate clinical tests and investigations and take responsibility for chasing up and reviewing results in a timely manner.
* Liaising with other clinical teams within and outside Brainkind as required, general practitioners and medical specialists with regards the physical health of the patients.
* Taking part in pre-admission assessment of People We Support out of area for their suitability of the service when required.
EMOTIONAL, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT
* You will be required to effectively manage your time to balance the demands of this role in an environment that can have unpredictable work patterns during your working time, changing priorities and frequent interruptions. You should be able to quickly and effectively adapt your working practices to meet the needs of the People We Support you are working with.
* As a result of their condition or associated psychological factors, some People We Support may exhibit challenging behaviours such as swearing, disinhibited behaviour and aggression. You will need to be able to manage these behaviours with compassion and professionalism. In some settings you may also be required to use appropriate physical intervention techniques once trained and competent.
* You may be required to support People We Support with personal care which may involve exposure to bodily fluids.
* You may be required to support People We Support with mobility issues using approved moving and handling techniques which may include the ability to push a wheelchair or use a hoist.
About you
* Full General Medical Council registration and licence to practice.
* Recognition under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act.
* Appropriate knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983/2007 and Code of Practice.
* Robust ability to assess and treat service users, followed with clear medical documentation.
* Ability to work closely in a Inter / Multi-disciplinary Team.
* At least 3 years’ experience in recognised training grade post in Psychiatry as SHO/CT or higher grade.
* Well-developed team skills evidenced by previous experience in MDT teamwork. Application and practice of appropriate clinical governance relevant to profession.
* Responsive to the complex care needs of the service user as demonstrated by case examples.
