At Specsavers, we want to help people jump feet first into opportunities and begin their journey in the world of work. And that’s just what our spectacle Technician apprenticeship does.
As a spectacle technician – also known as lab technician – apprentice, you’ll be the hands behind the product as you learn how to make and repair glasses, produce customer orders, interpret prescriptions and so much more. If you’re looking for a hands-on role in a busy store lab surrounded by top of the range tech, you’ve come to the right place.
What's on offer?
This apprenticeship takes 15-18 months to complete. Over the course of this time, you’ll get all the training you need to become a qualified Level 3 Lab Technician. Working for our exciting, innovative company, you’ll gain valuable experience from training and structured learning, supported by both the in-store and Specsavers apprenticeship team.
Over the course of the apprenticeship, you’ll be able to develop your knowledge to then help the team produce quality, affordable eyewear that’ll help millions of customers. Life looks better when it’s clearer, and you could be the one making that happen.
But what about the other more personal benefits? Well, our apprenticeship comes with a regular salary, 20+ days of paid holiday a year, plus bank holidays, as well as a load of benefits specific to your store.
Your role will be a lab-based one, so is perfect for those with a technical mindset and an interest in the manufacturing process of glasses. During the day-to-day you will keep the store running behind the scenes, get stuck in with practical work, apply appropriate maths and optical science solutions when necessary, produce customer orders from scratch and interpret optical prescriptions and drawings.
By the end of your apprenticeship, you will be able to manufacture and glaze glasses to a high quality, be competent in all areas of the glasses making process and maintain optical manufacturing equipment.
Every step of the way, from the moment you start all the way through to your nationally recognised qualification, we’ll be there to help you develop as an employee. Many of our spectacle technician apprentices go on to permanent roles at Specsavers too, even progressing to other roles, working towards other qualifications, or specialising in retail. And who knows, you could even run your own Specsavers store in years to come.
Minimum Requirements
To be eligible for the apprenticeship, you’ll need to have GCSE Maths Grade C/4 or above, or an equivalent level qualification. While we don’t need you to have experience, you will need to be passionate about helping customers and have great organisational skills.
