Role Overview: As a Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA), you will play a crucial role in supporting secondary students who experience difficulties in managing emotions, behaviour and social interactions. Your role will involve working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and external agencies to provide tailored support that fosters students’ confidence, academic progress and emotional well-being. Key Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them engage in learning. Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies to promote a positive and inclusive school environment. Support students in developing coping mechanisms, resilience and self-regulation skills. Work closely with teaching staff to differentiate lesson materials and adapt learning approaches. Act as a mentor and trusted adult, offering guidance and encouragement to students facing challenges. Monitor student progress, offering feedback and insights to teachers and pastoral staff. Assist in creating a structured and nurturing learning environment that fosters student well-being. Support students with transitions between lessons and school activities to ensure a smooth learning experience. Uphold safeguarding policies and work collaboratively with staff to ensure student welfare. Requirements: Experience working with young people with SEMH needs, either in an educational, youth work, or support capacity. A solid understanding of SEMH needs, behavioural challenges and de-escalation strategies. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with students. Resilience, patience and adaptability to work in a challenging yet rewarding environment. A relevant qualification in Education, Psychology, Youth Work, or a related field (desirable but not essential). Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one). What does GSL Education Offer?
