With state-of-the-art skills in materials technology, particularly relating to elastomers, polymers, composites and engineering plastics plus extensive expertise in precision machining of exotic alloys for metallic seals, and tension control fasteners for bolted joints.
The Position
This role will be based within the Project Engineering Department at the Cockermouth Manufacturing Business Unit. The full time working hours are 35 per week and the annual salary is £20,253.49 per annum.
During your Apprenticeship, you will be released to attend College on a day release basis, working towards your Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician qualification. It is anticipated this course will take 36 months to achieve.
The primary purpose of this apprenticeship is to provide the apprentice with a comprehensive understanding of both maintenance and project engineering. This will be achieved through hands-on maintenance work, academic study and active involvement in project management tasks, thereby developing a well-rounded skill set in engineering practices.
The role will encompass a formal time served apprenticeship and is expected to lead onto formal engineering & project management qualifications (APM qualifications, HNC, HND/Degree Apprenticeship – In an Engineering discipline).
Key responsibilities
1. Conduct planned maintenance on machinery and equipment.
2. Assist in troubleshooting and repairing technical issues.
3. Work closely with the maintenance team to learn operational procedures and best practices.
4. Document maintenance activities and outcomes.
5. Assist in planning and executing engineering projects.
6. Participate in project meetings and contribute ideas for improvements.
7. Support the implementation of production improvements and new machine installations.
8. Help manage building and infrastructure projects.
9. Track project progress and report to the Site Engineering Project Manager.
10. Assist with Contractor Management.
11. Health and Safety Documentations & Control.
12. Budgetary considerations and cost control.
Experience/Qualifications:
1. A minimum of 5 GCSE’s Grade C/Level 4 or above including English, Maths and Science.
2. AS / A levels or a qualification in an engineering related discipline would be of an advantage for this role.
3. Excellent problems solving, planning and organisational skills.
4. The ability to pay particular attention to detail with a strong work ethic and a right first time attitude.
5. The ability to build great relationships with both colleagues and customers, enabling you to deliver an excellent service provision.
