We are hiring a Mechanical Design Team Lead to join our team in Grimsby! This is a full-time, in-house, permanent role.
This is a working-lead role, with approximately 80% design work and 20% team-lead responsibilities. Successful candidates will have long-term experience in a similar lead or supervisor role, with demonstrated knowledge of machine design and industrial automation. They will also demonstrate initiative, critical thinking, a team-oriented attitude, strong attention to detail, and effective organizational skills within a fast-paced environment.

Schedule:
* Day shift, Monday to Friday

Major Duties & Responsibilities
Design Responsibilities:
* Report to Plant Manager
* Generate concept representation, proof of principle, preliminary or final design CAD models
* Revise and update existing drawings reflecting design changes as needed
* Design and perform proof of principle
* Create and generate the manufacturing package and associated BOM
* Maintain detailed notes, design calculations, and other documentation (including drawings, bill of materials, list of design parameters and performance guarantees)
* Effectively communicate, coordinate, and troubleshoot with all necessary departments, including Service, Manufacturing, Assembly, Electrical Controls, Sales, and Project Management
* Provide customer support as needed
* Review and adapt to information regarding product innovations, competitors, and market conditions
* Follow design standards and best practices
* Adhere to Health & Safety guidelines, as well as VTR’s Mission, Vision, and Values
* Other duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities:
* Oversee and lead Mechanical Design department
* Delegate work to Mechanical Design department members and ensure team members are meeting timelines, following design standards and best practices
* Communicate and coordinate with other departments, project management, and senior management regarding project updates, issues, etc.
* Attend various required meetings
* Review and update RoadRunner as needed
* Facilitate training and development of all Mechanical Design department team members
* Coach, train, and assist Mechanical Design Team as needed
* Assist HR with hiring and progressive discipline processes for Mechanical Design department as needed
* Assist with department enhancement and innovation
* General cleaning of workspace
* Ensure team is following Health & Safety guidelines and adhering to VTR’s mission, vision, and values
* Other general labour tasks as required
Qualifications:
* Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Outlook, Word, & Teams
* Strong attention to detail, communication, and time management skills
* Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
* Demonstrates adaptability and the ability to work under tight deadlines
* Demonstrates innovative thinking and proactive/reactive problem-solving skills
* Commitment to quality and safety
* Minimum 10 years of experience as a Mechanical Designer
* Long-term experience and strong knowledge of machine design and automation - Industrial Automation required
* 3-5 years of experience in a similar Design Lead or Supervisory role
* Design experience within medical, nuclear, aerospace, food, or packaging industries
* Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks
* Post Secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Design, and Drafting in CAD systems
