We are looking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Project Director to lead the planning, design, construction, commissioning and handover phases through to completion of our £200m+ Foundations For Our Future Hospital Reconfiguration Programme, which includes a significant clinical build extension, Multi Storey Car Park, Enabling Works and Internal Developments. You should have extensive experience, in a senior capacity, of leading the delivery of major complex hospital/healthcare projects and experience managing the financial, commercial and design assurance aspects of large scale NHS capital projects.
The Project Director will provide strategic leadership and direction to the capital team, project managers, cost advisors and other professionals. To monitor and report on build progress, oversee finance and build quality. The Project Director will work closely with the Trust reconfiguration team and will be responsible for leading the project team to successful conclusion of the project by providing leadership, strategically managing risk, monitoring finances and ensuring that each phase of the project starts and ends on schedule.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide and receive significant, highly complex, sensitive and often contentious technical, administrative, financial and specialist information on major and complex schemes involving communication with the project Senior Responsible Owner (SRO), Executive Directors, senior managers, professional consultants, legal agents, senior clinicians, operational staff, contractors and suppliers.
Critical skills in stakeholder management, thorough knowledge of the NHS and estates and facilities operational issues, oversight of capital project delivery, commercial awareness and programme and project management are required to be most successful in the role.
The role will manage capital schemes from conception through to handover. The candidate should have proven experience in project management and good working knowledge of the key RIBA stages.

Qualifications
* Educated to Master's degree level or equivalent level of experience, in an associated field e.g. BSc Project Management
* Qualifications relating to programme/project management
* An NEC3 or 4 accredited Project Manager
* IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent
* Evidence of career progression
* Further relevant professional or management qualifications e.g. Chartered Status such as RICS, CIOB etc.
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Associated AP training certification: Pressure Systems, Water, HV/LV, Fire, Ventilation, Medical Gas, Decontamination, Waste
Knowledge & Skills:
* Detailed knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Capital Development with particular emphasis on statutory regulation, HTM and best practice guidance.
* Professional background including specialist knowledge in more than one of the following areas for a significant time: Architecture, Interior Design, Construction, Engineering, Project Management
* Excellent personal organisational management skills. To be able to act on their own initiative. Excellent team working skills
* Ability to produce high quality written reports. To be able to develop good working relationships with all levels of staff
* Proven ability to produce detailed reports and Business Cases to Board level.
* Knowledge and understanding of Health Building Notes (HBNs) and Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs)
* Experience in managing, designing, implementing and evaluating multiple projects

Experience:
* Experience of managing the financial, commercial and procurement aspects of large-scale NHS capital projects
* Experience of managing a multi professional team at different levels of seniority including senior clinicians and a range of external advisors e.g. architects, cost advisors, contractors
* Demonstrable and significant experience within a public sector organisation with experience in managing complex building projects within an acute hospital healthcare environment or similar
* Understanding of the design development process and key NHS/RIBA project stages.
* Detailed theoretical knowledge and experience of practical application of NEC3 or 4 contracts
* Experience of successfully planning and implementing major change in health/clinical services
* Knowledge and experience of relevant health and safety legislation and in particular the Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations
* Able to participate in bid evaluation activities and processes
* Demonstrable ability to assist senior managers with the establishment of new systems and contracts and the effective management of the transition to business-as-usual service delivery
* Previous experience in the role of project director for a major NHS capital project
* Experienced and understanding of the NHS procurement process for capital contracts

* Membership of an associated professional organisation/institution e.g. RICS, CIBSE, CIOB, IHEEM etc.
