Position Description
KGL is looking for a Head of Learning and Development to become part of our remote UK Editorial team. This role serves as a liaison for our Editorial colleagues (across all locations) regarding training and quality inquiries. The Head will work in close partnership with Editorial leadership to advance both unit and company objectives, ensuring a top-tier customer experience and satisfaction.
Job Summary
The Head of Learning and Development is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing training programs and quality assurance processes for Editorial. This role ensures that editorial associates, assistant managing editors, and other editorial positions within KGL are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively while maintaining high standards of quality. The Head is a point of contact with others within Editorial (all locations) to address questions about training and quality and collaborates closely with Editorial leadership in support of overall unit and companywide goals and to ensure best-in-class customer experience and satisfaction.
In addition, the position will serve as Manager, Commercial Accounts (external use title) and will be responsible for leading managing key customer relationships, driving revenue and margin growth, and ensuring customer satisfaction through the delivery of industry-leading editorial services.
Responsibilities
Training and quality assurance
* Design and implement comprehensive training programs for editorial associates, assistant managing editors, and other editorial roles as directed to enhance employee skills, knowledge, and performance.
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives and make improvements as needed.
* Develop quality control procedures and standards to ensure compliance with workflow protocols and industry standards, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
* Analyze training outcomes and quality metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
* Collaborate with Editorial leadership (all locations) to align training objectives with organizational goals.
* Create and enforce policies and procedures related to training and quality assurance.
* In matrix organizational structure, lead other Editorial professionals involved in training and quality control, providing guidance and support.
* Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in training and quality management.
Account management
* Develop and implement strategic plans to grow commercial accounts and increase market share.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, understanding their needs and ensuring service excellence.
* Collaborate with internal teams to align service offerings with client expectations and industry trends.
* Monitor account performance, analyze data, and report on key metrics to senior management.
* Lead negotiations for contracts and pricing with clients to maximize profitability.
* Identify new business opportunities and drive initiatives to expand the client base.
* Provide leadership and mentorship to the commercial accounts team, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree.
* 10+ years’ experience in peer review management role/s for multiple STM journals.
* Experience with one or more major commercial manuscript system.
* Experience with in training and quality control roles, with leadership experience preferred.
* Experience setting up or managing teams in India is required.
* Knowledge of existing and emerging standards in peer review and relevant trends in scholarly publishing industry.
* Strong understanding of client relationship management and sales strategies.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to analyze data and adapt strategies and tactics accordingly.
* Leadership and team management capabilities.
* Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
