What we are looking for:
Winterstoke Hundred Academy in Weston super Mare is looking for a passionate and inspiring Curriculum Leader of Science to join the team on a Permanent basis.
This role will teach Science to KS3, KS4 and KS5 classes, working across two sites based at Beaufighter Road and Locking Parklands. This teaching position includes additional leadership responsibilities as Curriculum Leader. You will maintain an excellent working environment that is both inspiring and aspirational for students and teachers, delivering schemes of work that challenge all abilities across all year groups.
The learning experience for students is enriched by extra-curricular activities, visits, and experiences beyond the classroom. The post holder will deliver strong lessons, modeling excellence to all.
Your opportunity:
We can offer you the opportunity to advance your career within a supportive academy environment. We provide excellent training and development opportunities within the Federation, including a full induction programme for early career and experienced teachers. Training is both local and/or delivered through our excellent stand-alone training facility at the CLF Institute. For teachers, the CLF Institute aims to provide a continuum of development through each career stage from initial teacher training (ITT), for early career teachers (ECT), recently qualified teachers in their early career development, to successive stages of leadership through to Headship and beyond.
Responsibilities:
Teachers support a designated cohort of students to make progress in their learning, engagement, core literacy, language and numeracy skills, and social development. This is achieved through taking responsibility for the learning of students - planning, delivering, facilitating and assessing their learning whilst showing ambition to develop as an outstanding teacher and leader. They will plan and deliver sessions and interventions, and provide a point of accountability, coordination, and liaison for the students in their attendance, for their families, and for professionals working with them. They will work towards typically good and outstanding lessons that achieve good student progress over time. This will be actioned by taking an active role in supporting the Academy’s high expectations of student behaviour and attitudes towards learning.
Winterstoke Hundred has students in all year groups, being oversubscribed in Years 7 to 10. Year 11, who were our first cohort of learners, are a slightly smaller cohort, and we have a thriving sixth form with students in Years 12 and 13. The development of the new building, which opened in 2024, saw us nearing capacity as a split-site, medium-scale 11–19 Academy. We celebrate the fact that, as a new provision, our culture, ethos, and values have been ours to define from the beginning, and we are able to decide what is important to take with us into the future as we grow.
