The Selden Centre is a modern purpose-designed 10 bed inpatient assessment and intervention service for people with learning disabilities. Its fundamental aim is to support people back to community living.
From this safe and friendly environment, our team of 30 multi-disciplinary healthcare professionals offers individualized support, with opportunities for 1:1 therapeutic sessions to men and women who are referred into the service because of:
* Escalating needs in the community
* Placement breakdown requiring reassessment of needs
* Step down from a more secure and/or high-cost residential/hospital service
As a Band 5 Staff Nurse at The Selden Centre, you will share our belief that people with learning disabilities have the same rights as all members of society. You will work with our service users, their families and/or carers, referrers, and service providers to determine the outcomes needed.

Main duties of the job
We work together to assess and develop appropriate interventions and care programmes to nurture the individual's skills. You will work hand-in-hand with partner agencies and care managers to identify suitable future placements that meet the individual's identified care and support needs for the future once they are discharged from our service.

Job responsibilities
To deliver a high standard of evidence-based inpatient nursing care in the designated care group in partnership with the team, the service users, and where appropriate their family:
* To act as a primary nurse in the assessment of needs and organizing of care.
* To co-ordinate shifts and provide supervision for support workers and students.
* To work within a team of nurses and other professionals who are committed to the delivery of a quality service.
* To adopt a flexible approach to hours of duty, in order to meet the needs of the service over a 24-hour period.
* To take charge of a designated clinical area and deputize as appropriate.
* To represent the Ward Manager and/or care team, at appropriate forums and disseminate information as required.
* To represent the clinical team perspective at multidisciplinary meetings and clinical reviews of patient care.
* To be an active participant in the multi-disciplinary team, formulating care plans and utilizing appropriate assessments.

* Knowledge of MHA (1983/2007).
* Knowledge of Mental Capacity Act (2005), to include practical knowledge of FACE documentation, DOLS, and Best Interest decisions
* Child and Adult safeguarding procedures
* Change management, organizing and prioritizing workloads.
* Demonstrate ability to enhance care through evidence-based knowledge.
* Demonstrate professional development relevant to the care group
* Demonstrates ability to assess and manage clinical risk
