Main duties of the job
The Cancer Performance Analyst will generate insightful cancer performance reports, ensure data quality, and validate cancer pathway data for key internal and external stakeholders. Collaborating with Digital Services and the Power BI team, they will support digital projects and enhance reporting tools. Through trend analysis, they'll identify improvement areas in cancer pathways, assist with statutory and ad-hoc reporting, and maintain data governance standards. Engaging closely with clinical and operational teams, the Analyst will provide responsive, accurate data to advance cancer service performance and meet national targets.
Job responsibilities
The Cancer Performance Analyst will provide high-quality, data-driven insights and reports to support the Cancer Teams performance monitoring and improvement efforts. The role involves analysing cancer performance data, identifying trends, and uncovering issues that impact cancer pathways. The analyst will work closely with the Cancer Team, Digital Services PowerBI team to improve data quality, support the Cancer Improvement Plan, and develop future actions based on data analysis.
1. Data Analysis and Reporting:
Produce detailed and accurate cancer performance reports for internal use and external bodies (e.g., NHSE, Cancer Alliance), adhering to deadlines and quality standards.
Support the Cancer Improvement Plan by analysing cancer performance data and providing insights to identify areas requiring improvement.
Ensure data is validated, accurate, and formatted correctly for its intended purpose.
2. Data Validation and Quality:
Work with Information Analysts to develop and maintain validation checks to ensure cancer pathway data is complete and accurate. Collaborate with the Cancer Team to improve data quality and identify discrepancies, ensuring data is fit for analysis and submission to external bodies.
3. Collaboration with Digital Services and PowerBI:
Work closely with Digital Services and the PowerBI team to develop reporting mechanisms and digital solutions that support cancer data analysis and performance monitoring. Contribute to digital projects that aim to improve cancer services through better use of data and technology, supporting the Cancer Team's initiatives.
4. Trend Analysis and Issue Identification:
Identify performance trends, track key metrics (e.g., 28-day FDS, 62-day treatment target), and help uncover issues in cancer pathways that affect overall service performance. Provide insights and data to support decision-making by the Cancer Team, operational managers, and clinicians.
5. Statutory and Ad-Hoc Reporting:
Respond to requests for ad-hoc analysis from senior management, clinicians, and operational staff, ensuring data is validated and presented in a clear, actionable format. Support the Cancer Team Management to ensure timely and accurate production of statutory reports required by NHSE and CMCA.
6. Data Governance and Documentation:
Ensure adherence to Information Governance standards, ensuring all data handled is secure and complies with data protection regulations. Maintain appropriate documentation for all routine data reports, analyses, and digital projects to support the achievement of standards set by Information Governance.
7. Support of Cancer Improvement Plan:
Work alongside the Cancer Transformation Lead, Cancer Services Manager and clinicians to provide data insights that align with the Cancer Improvement Plan, supporting service improvements and pathway efficiencies. Assist in developing future actions and strategies based on trend analysis and performance insights.
8. Stakeholder Collaboration:
Establish and develop relationships with clinical and operational staff to understand service requirements and improve the quality and timeliness of performance reports. Liaise with external stakeholders, such as NHSE and Cancer Alliance, providing necessary data and responding to performance queries.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
Essential
* Well developed skills in a range of relevant software packages including Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, MS Project and Word.
* Understanding and knowledge of relational databases
* High level of data analysis and statistical skills
Desirable
* Well developed skills SQL, Microsoft Access and PowerBI.
* Understanding of NHSE Cancer Targets and Performance Standards
* Awareness of Gynaecological Cancer Pathways
* Understanding of NHS datasets and data definitions

* Experience of multi-task working
* Experience of extracting data from organisation wide systems

* Minimum of 2 years experience within similar role ideally within the NHS or other public sector
