We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Consultant to join a team of ENT Consultants and Specialists. The Department of ENT offers a service for adults and children, outpatients/inpatients electives and day case work. There is a special interest within the team for Head and Neck surgery, thyroid and salivary gland surgery, FESS, and Otology.
The department is supported by comprehensive imaging services, including CT, MRI scanning, Nuclear medicine, Pathology, Pharmacy, and Audiology Services.
This is a permanent post based on 10 PAs per week. This post does have an on-call requirement. The on-call is 1:3 Monday to Thursday, and 1:9 Friday to Sunday; the weekend on-call is shared with the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
Candidates who prefer a part-time commitment are also welcome to apply. Applicants must have full GMC registration, FRCS (or equivalent), and CCT/CESR in Otolaryngology (or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT). The postholder should have completed an Otology fellowship.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Services
The appointed clinician will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for the planning, delivery, and improvement of clinical care in ENT Surgery at Barnsley Hospital.
Advise clinical colleagues on matters within his/her sphere of experience.
Liaise with other Health Care Organisations, Social Services, General Practitioners, Voluntary Organisations, and the Hospice as required.
Training and Education
Contribute to the teaching of other grades of staff, both within and outside the department, including medical staff, nurses, paramedical staff, and scientific and technical staff.
Consider a role as Educational Supervisor / Clinical Supervisor for Specialist Registrars, Core Trainees, Foundation Doctors.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT - proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview
* CESR or European Community Rights
* Relevant Higher Degree.
Experience
* Experience of the management of all common ENT conditions and broad clinical experience in Otology, FESS, and Head and Neck Surgery.
Training
* Higher Surgical Training in ENT and obtained CCST/CCT or equivalent with minimum 1 year experience in Otology.
* Fellowship in Otology.
* Training in sub-specialist area of practice.
Teaching, Audit and Research
* Experience of training medical undergraduates and postgraduates.
* Training the Trainers.
* Experience of participation in regular clinical audit, and ability to organize and present audits.
* Evidence of clinical papers published in peer-reviewed journals.
* Experience of supervising research by junior staff.
* Completion of Education Supervisor training.
* Broad experience of medical research and presentations at national or regional conferences.
