Job Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work as an Assistant Psychologist in our Acute mental health wards based at Mill View Hospital, Brighton and Hove. This new role recognises the importance of psychological input to make inpatient admissions more therapeutic and to support timely discharges.
About The Role
We are seeking a confident and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist with experience of working with adults with complex needs in a mental healthcare setting to support the acute psychology team and enhance the psychological care of patients in the service. You will work under the supervision of a qualified HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist to provide assessment and delivery of evidence-based psychological interventions to individuals and groups.

Mill View hospital is a busy Mental Health hospital in Hove with Adult acute wards, Older adult ward, and Psychiatric Intensive Care. We strive to deliver personalised and collaborative care. We work with people with a range of complex mental health needs, so our care needs to be autism and trauma-informed, where people are engaged and occupied and given a sense of hope for their future.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- Support and enhance professional psychological practice within the service.
- Provide support, co-ordination, and administration to clinical, training, and research functions.
- Work independently according to a plan agreed and reviewed through regular supervision by a HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist.
- Undertake projects relating to service development and evaluation.
- Set up databases and spreadsheets using advanced IT skills in evaluation, audit, and research.
- Support assessment and treatment interventions undertaken by the service.
- Plan, organise, and co-teach psycho-educational courses and groups with appropriately qualified professional staff.
- Liaise with a range of services relevant to the working area.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria:
* Honours degree at 2:1 or above in Psychology, or equivalent. Eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartership with the BPS.
Knowledge/Experience
Essential criteria:
* Relevant clinical and research skills.
* Experience of working as part of a team.
* Basic knowledge of databases, research skills, and methodology.
* Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a health context.
* An understanding of psychology applied to health care.
