Duties of the Head of MFL:
* Leading and managing the MFL department, ensuring a high standard of teaching and learning across all year groups.
* Developing and implementing an innovative, engaging, and challenging curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
* Monitoring and evaluating student progress, setting high expectations, and providing support to ensure achievement for all learners.
* Mentoring and developing a team of MFL teachers, promoting their professional growth and fostering a collaborative department culture.
* Leading extra-curricular activities and language-related events, including school trips and cultural exchanges, to broaden students' experiences and deepen their understanding of the languages they are learning.
* Collaborating with senior leadership and other departments to promote the importance of languages and intercultural understanding across the school.
* Driving the department’s performance in line with school improvement targets and providing regular updates to the senior leadership team.
Requirements for the Head of MFL:
* A qualified and experienced teacher with a degree in a Modern Foreign Language (French, Spanish, German, etc.), and a recognized teaching qualification (QTS).
* Proven leadership experience within an MFL department, with a track record of driving academic success and creating a positive learning environment.
* Passionate about languages and committed to inspiring students to reach their potential and develop a lifelong love for language learning.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and support both students and staff.
* Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
* A proactive and innovative approach to curriculum development, incorporating modern teaching strategies and technology to enhance language learning.
* Experience with implementing extra-curricular language initiatives (e.g., trips, cultural events, exchanges) would be highly desirable.
