About the role (External)
We are recruiting for a specific role within the Network Rail Technology Development Team (TDT), who design and manufacture the High-Performance Switch System (HPSS) Point Operating Equipment (POE) that is widely deployed across the Network Rail signalling infrastructure.
TDT supply new HPSS systems, plus operational spares, tooling, repairs and offer full product support from their factory in Weston-super-Mare.
On time delivery of safety critical and high reliability HPSS equipment for use in the operational railway is at the forefront of our business, and we have a requirement for an enthusiastic, motivated, and inspiring individual to join the team as a Senior Electronics Engineer to lead in the achievement of our goals.
Main Responsibilities
The successful Senior Engineer [Electronics] will lead the management of electronics production activities to facilitate timely delivery and overall operational efficiency in our factory in Weston-super-Mare. You will act as a liaison between the TDT Management team and the staff who implement their vision.
Your main responsibilities will include:
1. Line Management of the electronics team, including conducting performance reviews, managing competency development and planning recruitment for your area.
2. Leading the assembly, inspection, calibration, and test of electronics equipment for Point Operating Equipment (POE) in accordance with the appropriate operating, quality assurance, safety, and environment procedures.
3. Leading investigations into faulty electronics equipment returned from the customer, acquiring, and analysing data, preparing necessary testing and reports so that root causes of problems are identified, and recommendations can be made for improvements to avoid repeat failures.
4. Management of the electronics production facility, so that inventory levels are maintained, electronics test equipment is calibrated and ensuring best business practices are in place, making recommendations on improving policies and procedures.
5. Leading of continuous improvement initiatives within the electronics production operation.
6. Writing and reviewing technical documentation related to the electronics production operation.
7. Working as a team with the other managers to ensure delivery of the TDT portfolio is met.
8. Identifying and supporting opportunities for developing staff within your area of responsibility.
The Ideal Candidate shall have all the essential criteria below:
* Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience (Level 6).
* Management experience.
* Membership of a relevant technical body.
* Broad technical engineering experience.
* Project or financial planning and management experience.
Desirable but not essential
* Chartered status.
* Experience with safety critical applications.
* Formal Project Management qualification (e.g., APMP, PRINCE2, PMIP, MSP).
* Proven ability in managing commercial, contractual, and financial issues.
* Knowledge of the railway industry and an understanding of railway infrastructure.
