Document Controller - Construction & Building Services
This is a Document Controller role with a principal contractor engaged in the delivery of a crucial infrastructure upgrade for a live data centre located in Longcross, Chertsey. The Role
In this role, you will be responsible for downloading and distributing new project information to key project files, ensuring that the entire team has access to the latest documentation and revisions. Maintaining up-to-date records is critical, including logging and tracking all documents uploaded and returned, as well as overseeing the integrity of live drawings. A significant part of your responsibility will involve managing the document control system to ensure its efficiency and compliance with company procedures and guidelines.
You will be interacting with multidisciplinary design teams, subcontractors, and a diverse client base, ensuring that all documents and drawings are promptly and accurately distributed. This requires receiving and conducting thorough quality checks on all transmitted drawings and documents, ensuring adherence to established naming conventions and file standards. Additionally, you will take ownership of the document control software system, providing training to relevant stakeholders and ensuring it is consistently utilized as intended.
Your duties extend to maintaining controlled document registers and supporting project managers by developing and organizing essential documents, such as specifications, approvals, and drawings. Working within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment necessitates a high degree of focus, organization, and precision in completing tasks efficiently. Handling complex and sensitive documentation with reliability and discretion will also form a core part of your responsibilities.
What you need
The ideal candidate will bring at least two years of experience as a Document Controller within the construction industry, demonstrating a solid understanding of the sector and strong administrative skills. Proficiency in using document management platforms such as Aconex or Q-Flow is essential, alongside a good command of IT systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Fluency in English, combined with excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, is necessary for frequent interaction with internal and external business partners. A valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are also required.
What you'll get
The role offers opportunities for either permanent or freelance candidates with both having the opportunity for long term employment.
On a salaried basis you would be offered between £35,000 and £45,000 depending on experience, skillset and ability.
On a freelance basis you would be offered between £180 and £210 (enhanced rate through umbrella PAYE).
