Neurology
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated Medical Secretary to join the Neurology team on a 6 month Fixed term contract.
The post holder will provide a comprehensive, confidential, secretarial and administrative support service for our Consultants, Nurses, and wider clinical team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide an efficient and comprehensive secretarial service to the Consultants, medical staff, clinical teams, and department.
2. Type correspondence and documents, deal with various enquiries, and manage patients’ records and results.
3. Supervise and oversee the workload allocation of the administration team when required.
4. Undertake effective administrative and secretarial duties as part of the admin team.
5. Work as part of the administration team and provide cross-cover during periods of staff absence.
6. Provide a comprehensive clinical secretarial service to the Clinical Team to enable them to carry out their duties effectively.
7. Type outpatient clinic letters, discharge summaries, references, minutes of meetings, and rotas.
8. Handle telephone and face-to-face enquiries from patients, relatives, and staff, directing and prioritising queries as appropriate.
9. Act as the focal point of communication for all medical, professional, and allied medical staff.
10. Manage sensitive communications with tact, patience, and discretion.
11. Retrieve patient notes and alert Clinical Teams of any urgent or abnormal test results.
12. Ensure confidentiality is maintained in all communications and that sensitive information is secure.
13. Contribute to the development of the Directorate and maintain close cooperation with team members.
14. Liaise with other hospital departments, GPs, and healthcare agencies when required.
15. Assist colleagues when needed and coordinate Clinical Teams’ diaries for effective time management.
16. Maximise the use of innovative IT systems and support the management of routine and 2ww pathways.
17. Provide cross-cover within the administration team during absence and follow relevant organisational policies.
