The role
You'll be responsible for the performance of the company achieving results for the board's overall strategy. You will lead a large team to drive processes and improvement within a fast-paced environment to ensure excellent service levels are being met. You will lead, coach & develop and engage with senior managers to ensure 'best in class processes' are implemented and the organizational vision is set out. You will identify business growth opportunities and ensure innovative business solutions are developed to drive business forward.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Implementation of a transport strategy for the UK that will enable the business to meet its functional and commercial goals for the future.
2. Management of a transport team responsible for all of the transport scheduling and administration.
3. Implementation of a set of KPIs that will complement the business model, provide direction for process improvements and provide better leverage when influencing stakeholders.
4. Accountability for compliance and H&SE across the supply chain.
5. Project management as and when required.
6. Formulating and successfully implementing company policy.
7. Developing strategic plans.
8. Building and maintaining an effective leadership team.
9. Plan, develop and implement transport & logistics policies and goals.
10. Maintain a thorough understanding of all areas of the transport & logistics operation to ensure operational efficiency and economy.
11. Maintain ongoing awareness of market conditions and trends to ensure effective reaction to market changes.
12. Work and communicate with departments.
13. Plan, develop and implement activities in cooperation with departments and monitor and review weekly and monthly results by means of management meetings and reports.
14. Develop and maintain relationships with all department heads to ensure company goals are achieved.
15. Directing strategy towards the profitable growth and operation of the company.
16. Developing strategic operating plans that reflect the longer-term objectives and priorities established by the board.
17. Putting in place adequate operational planning and financial control systems.
18. Ensuring that the operating objectives and standards of performance are not only understood but owned by the management and other employees.
19. Closely monitoring the operating and financial results against plans and budgets.
20. Taking remedial action where necessary and informing the board of significant changes.
21. Maintaining the operational performance of the company.
22. Representing the company to major customers, partners and professional associations.
Ideal candidate
Desired Skills and Experience
1. Experience: National Operations experience essential ideally in the Sameday environment.
2. Transport & Logistics background essential.
3. Understanding of current health & safety and legal compliance regulations applicable to transport & logistics.
4. Qualification in logistics or general management.
5. Managerial experience in running Hubs at National and Regional level.
6. Strong communication and interaction skills required.
7. Effective and competent management, leadership and organizational skills required.
8. An eye for detail.
9. Good at planning and organizing.
10. Excellent communication skills.
11. A good leader.
12. The courage to make difficult decisions when required.
