To participate in the delivery of highly specialist clinical pharmaceutical and medical supply services, ensuring that services meet the standards set by the General Pharmaceutical Council and relevant legislation. To act as the lead specialist for antimicrobial stewardship within the trust. To develop and implement a strategy for antimicrobial stewardship, ensuring that it covers all areas of the trust and that it is regularly audited. To ensure the safe, appropriate and effective use of antimicrobials across the trust. To develop and implement effective, evidence-based and economic antimicrobial prescribing policies, patient group directions and training. To develop, implement and audit an antimicrobial prescribing review programme across the organisation to ensure appropriate review and prescribing for relevant indications for all antimicrobials, in line with the relevant formularies and clinical guidelines. To support the trust in ensuring antimicrobial prescriptions are reviewed in line with the start smart then focus approach/campaign. To actively initiate and take part in practice research relating to antimicrobial stewardship, which may lead to publication or to the presentation of papers or posters at conferences and workshops. To provide assurance on antimicrobial stewardship to the Director of Infection Prevention and Control and the Chief Pharmacist.
