Your role
RWE is one of the UK’s leading renewables generators, delivering an exciting and ambitious portfolio of clean and low carbon power projects as we progress towards our global ambition to be net zero by 2040. You will play a key role in developing and maintaining the company’s brand and its reputation as a trusted and expert partner to government and our neighbouring communities, in the decarbonisation of the UK’s energy system. As a member of RWE’s UK Communications team and the wider International Media Relations team, you will act as one of the spokespersons for RWE in the UK, covering all of the company’s UK activities, including offshore wind, onshore wind, solar, batteries, flexible generation and hydrogen. Following an integrated communications approach across all communications disciplines, you will work closely with RWE’s Group Corporate Communications & Public Affairs department. As well as supporting different technologies, you will also work across cluster regions in the UK where RWE is especially active, ensuring the differing needs of individual projects, technologies and operating companies come together under the RWE banner.
Main responsibilities
1. You will actively and reactively manage RWE’s presence in the UK media through building-up reliable and trusted relationships with journalists from key UK national and trade media and key regional media.
2. You will develop and implement communications concepts to actively position RWE and its business activities in relevant media by consistent, target-oriented, suitable messaging towards all stakeholders.
3. You will position RWE’s UK top management in the media with relevant topics in support of RWE’s UK business through developing and delivering a successful media engagement strategy.
4. You will formulate and edit press releases, official wordings, speeches, thought leadership pieces and expert articles, including target-group-adapted explanation of complex political and economic matters.
5. You will plan, organise, implement and support press conferences and press events as well as organise, prepare and support interviews with executives and other company experts.
6. You will respond to media enquiries from national, trade and international media on RWE’s business activities in the UK.
7. You will monitor media, send media alerts to management, prepare and align appropriate reactive statements at short notice.
Key skill requirements
8. Successfully completed university degree in the field of media, communication, journalism, economics, humanities or comparable studies.
9. Several years of experience as press spokesperson in a sensitive media environment.
10. A pronounced linguistic competence in English with a journalistic claim - stylistically confident, as well as target group-oriented and understandable.
11. A good awareness of the full range of media channels, including social and digital media, would be of valuable.
12. Strong ability to communicate complex energy-economic and energy-political contexts for different target groups.
13. Proven experience to manage complex projects with many different stakeholders
14. Strong ability to work in a team and at the same time willingness to work independently and occasionally out of hours if required.
15. Experience of working in an international corporate environment/for a large corporate, international company is of advantage.
16. Experience of working closely with senior company representatives, providing confident and competent expert guidance and support in media and communications matters. Well organised, capable of processing and prioritising significant amounts of information.
17. Experience in media crisis management would also be of value.
