The Prosperity Vice Presidency is one of the World Bank Group's five verticals, with a mandate that emphasizes Growth, Finance, and Institutions for all." Our approach leverages data-driven analysis and combines expertise from both the public and private sectors, together with International Finance Corporation (IFC). The Prosperity Vice-Presidency supports clients in advancing evidence-based structural reforms to establish the foundations for inclusive and sustainable growth in the thematic areas of macro-fiscal policy; financial sector resilience, access, and deepening; private sector development, trade and competitiveness; and governance and public sector reform, including statistical capacity. Prosperity is comprised of five Global Departments.
Finance, Competitiveness & Innovation (FCI) is one of the five Prosperity Vice Presidency's Global Departments that combines expertise in the financial sector and private sector development to foster private-sector led growth and help create stable, resilient and inclusive markets in client countries. The Competitiveness unit (ETIMT) in the Trade, Investment and Competitiveness (TIC) Department is a team of microeconomists, industry specialists and development practitioners. The unit focuses on a thorough understanding of the industrial organization of markets with the objective of removing economic distortions to promote competitive, contestable, innovative and inclusive markets and thus boost productivity growth. The unit's goal is to provide cutting-edge, evidence-based advice to developing countries around the globe on policies to level the playing field and promote competitive and contestable markets, competition, product market regulation as well as non-distortive industry and sectoral development policies (including green competitiveness).
The responsibilities of the ETIMT unit include:
• Provide intellectual leadership on issues and policies to support competitive markets, competition, including Business of the State and SOEs, and the development and upgrading of productive, sustainable and resilient value chains in order to apply analytical frameworks in the regions, support policy dialogue, and inform bank operations development.
• Support client countries by delivering lending operations and technical assistance projects in the ETIMT areas of expertise, in collaboration with FCI and other World Bank Group's regional units.
• Create global knowledge on frontier topics in the field of industrial organization.
• Facilitate knowledge diffusion and adoption of good practices in areas of expertise through policy dialogue, analytical and advisory work, including leading the design and implementation of empirical quantitative structural IO assessments and impact evaluations with a focus on randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
• Support World Bank Group senior management through briefings, guidance notes, and other inputs to inform and shape the WBG institutional strategy on ETIMT areas of expertise.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be based in Washington, DC. S/he will support the Practice Manager of the unit and will provide full range administrative and operational support. This includes but is not restricted to the following:
• Provide a full range of administrative and operational support to the ETIMT team, including work associated with business development, client management, project processing, conferences, events, and travel etc.
• Coordinate the logistics and help prepare the necessary correspondence for Concept, Decision, and ASA review meetings, as well as ROC, OC, negotiations, signing, including webex, VCs and PowerPoint presentations and other administrative duties as needed.
• File documents in SharePoint related to projects and others in a systematic way, to allow easy access by any member of the team, applying the appropriate record retention policies.
• Internal Quality Assurance of documents: proofreading, editing, and reviewing final documents for completion before circulation of packages.
• Establish and maintain an effective network of contacts, both inside and outside of the department to ensure effective cooperation in support of unit deliverables.
• Provide quality control of internal and external documents; review documents for accuracy and adherence with IFC and World Bank guidelines and procedures; assist staff in the drafting, editing, formatting, and production of documents and correspondence.
• Provide consistent and timely monitoring and of project pipeline and workflow, including documentation, Board, and the scheduling of associated meetings.
• Create requests for STCs and POs in Admin Portal, eConsultant and other systems as needed. Handle PCard and Event Card payments, and monthly reconciliation of expenses.
• Correspond with vendors to solicit price quotes for supplies and make hotel reservations in accordance with World Bank Group policy.
• Handle bookings for business travel, request visas for staff; manage logistics requests for visiting staff and client meetings.
• Provide support with all types of administrative requests such as office supplies order, staff directory changes, email distribution lists, visitor's pass, videoconferences, Webex/Teams meetings.
• Request Issuance of IT equipment, telephone, furniture, and related office readiness activities.
• Assist in organizing the logistics for meetings/seminars, including audio or video conferencing, Webex, catering, and handling any ad-hoc matters as they may arise.
• Collaborate with other team members and contribute productively to the team's work and output.
• Back-up other ACS in the office and in the TIC department when needed.
• Undertake ad hoc duties that may be assigned by the Supervisor, or a designated Project Team Lead.
Selection Criteria
• Minimum of Bachelors' degree and/ college diploma with a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in similar role, preferably in a large international organization or multinational corporation.
• Excellent organizational, administrative, and effective time management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, schedule, plan and coordinate work and other activities internally and externally.
• Strong attention to detail and to maintaining high quality standards.
• Ability to produce high quality work under pressure.
• Proven ability to create and work in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment, to perform effectively in a constantly changing environment with competing activities and demands, and to effectively serve as a team member in various groups.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and implement projects and tasks, set priorities, coordinate, and monitor assignments to maximize efficiency and quality.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a range of contacts internally and externally and deal effectively with diverse situations which require good judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
• Effective analytical, research and problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and make judgments and decisions with minimal supervision.
• Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written), including ability to draft, proofread and edit correspondences and ensure quality of written outputs; Spanish, French Portuguese and/or Russian language skills are a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to respond and deal effectively with diverse situations which require good judgment, tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
• Strong computer skills; proficiency with various software technologies such as MS Office, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and other standard office productivity software. Ability to learn quickly new software applications.
• High degree of motivation, initiative, flexibility, and reliability.
