Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a permanent full time (part-time will be considered) B3 Healthcare Assistant post to work across Leicester City.
Leicester Sexual Health Service is a 6 day a week service and the post holder will be required to be flexible to service needs including working evenings and one Saturday a month.
We offer development packages, in-house training and a supportive approach for all staff within the service.
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic individual with previous health care assistant experience who possesses excellent communication skills, is able to work under their own initiative and has the skills to manage difficult and sensitive situations. You must be non-judgemental in your approach, be able to deal with challenging and delicate situations and have a good understanding of data protection and confidentiality. Also, you must be committed to the delivery of high standards of patient care.
This role will be based at Haymarket Health in the Haymarket Shopping Centre, Leicester and will include assisting and chaperoning clinical staff for procedures and having your own ‘no-talk testing’ clinic. Maintaining excellent standards of infection control, phlebotomy and microscopy. The setting up and closing down of the clinic is also part of the role.
Main duties of the job
MAIN DUTIES
The post holder will be required to work in collaboration with members of the sexual health team, contributing to the promotion and provision of high-quality care for patients seeking advice, screening and treatment in contraception and sexual health settings within the sexual health service.
The post holder will support the sexual health team, working autonomously where appropriate.
Day to day duties to include phlebotomy, blood pressure, weight, height and body mass index calculations, pregnancy testing, collecting urine samples including urinalysis, providing a ‘no talk testing’ service, condom demonstrations, chaperoning, assisting and preparing for the sessions within sexual health.
The post holder will also be responsible for stock refill, rotation and ordering as per clinical requirements and also to support in the maintenance of high infection and prevention standards.

* Assist in clinic sessions as directed by the Nurse Team Lead to ensure the smooth running of the clinics.
* To participate in planned procedures and prescribed care for patients under the direction of medical and nursing colleagues, which includes preparing for and assisting clinicians with intra-uterine device fittings/removals, implant insertion/removal, swab sample taking and cervical cytology.
* To act as a chaperone for clinical staff offering intimate examinations to patients as and when necessary.
* To undertake condom teaching and advice to patients promoting safe sex issues including prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.
* To promote healthy lifestyles in all aspects of delivering the sexual health service, to ensure holistic care is undertaken.
* To provide a ‘no talk testing’ service, working autonomously in accordance with the department's standard operating procedures.
* Act as an advocate to young people within the sexual health settings and other venues, through the delivery of effective support and information, and thus enabling them to make the appropriate choices and decisions.

* Good standard of general education including GCSE English (or equivalent level of qualification)
