Main duties of the job
Cellular Pathology invites applications for the post of an Advanced Healthcare Dissection Scientist to join their friendly and experienced team. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and suitably experienced individual supporting the full range of dissection services within Cellular Pathology. This position will work alongside Scientific Dissectors, Clinical Registrars and Consultant Histopathologists to provide a specimen dissection service for the department. On average we receive ~48,000 Histology & Cytology requests annually. Job responsibilities
The post holder will play a crucial role in advancing specimen dissection services, training and innovation within pathology. They will have proven skills in dissection, decision making, team leadership, change management, and a collaborative mindset. The post holder will also have line management responsibility for a small team of scientists while working closely with other operational managers across Cellular Pathology to supervise, support and develop staff. The department operates 6am-7pm Mon-Fri & Sat 7am-5pm, therefore some Saturday working is required. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the rotational Bank Holiday service-approx. 1 per annum. The post holder will perform specimen dissection at an advanced level, in accordance with the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath) and relevant guidelines. They will be HCPC registered and possess the Institute of Biomedical Scientists/RCPath Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection, and possess/or be working towards the IBMS/RCPath Advanced Specialist Diploma in Specimen Dissection. They will be responsible for the effective day-to-day operational management of the dissection services within Cellular Pathology.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
* Possess an IBMS accredited BSc in Biomedical sciences
* Possess an MSc in relevant Life sciences field.
* Evidence of utilising skills gained from the successful award of the Institute of Biomedical Scientists/RCPath Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection.
* HCPC Registered
* Possesses or is working towards the IBMS/RCPath Advanced Specialist Diploma in Specimen Dissection.
* Evidence of CPD including participating in internal and external training meetings, staying up to date with best practices.
* Detailed knowledge of COSHH and relevant health and safety guidelines.
* Knowledge of HTA guidelines.
* Evidence with the UKAS accreditation process as well as demonstrating compliance.
* Evidence of participation in departmental research and development initiatives, contributing to studies and innovations that enhance laboratory practices.
* Evidence of publications or presenting at symposia and conferences.
* Experience of managing a team.
* Possesses a trust or leadership academy qualification
