ASEND Teaching Assistants
We are looking for confident SEN Teaching Assistants to support children and young people with SEND in Thurrock. We support pupils with SEND who are struggling to engage in the classroom or who are not attending school for a number of reasons including a lack of a suitable school place. We aim to prepare them for a return to mainstream or special school.
We work with pupils of all ages face-to-face within school times, and in a range of settings including schools, community centres, homes and out in the community. We need a wide range of SEND Teaching Assistants to support our pupils to meet their specific needs and ensure good progress. We work very hard to match each tutor with pupils who can most benefit from their skills and expertise.

About The Pupil
Our pupil is a 9-year-old boy diagnosed with ASD and ADHD. He loves playing Minecraft, Roblox, and spending time with his cat. He is energetic and dreams of working in the culinary industry in the future. He struggles with emotional regulation and sensory sensitivities, often finds it challenging to return to a place where he can engage with an activity. He enjoys coloring, playing football, and watching Kung Fu Panda, but dislikes dogs.
The tutor will have a fun yet confident approach, patience, and a focus on early years play-based learning would be best suited for him. Encouraging social interaction and improving writing skills are priorities. The Teaching Assistant will be crucial in helping ensure that our pupil gets the most out of his learning experience.
About you:
You’ll have some experience with SEN: Severe Learning Difficulties, Early Years and Autism
You may have experience working with children in a therapeutic way
You’ll have a passion for helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement
You’ll be good at building rapport and strong relationships with children and their families - we work closely with families to create a plan
Ideally, have some experience of helping children with their learning
Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils
Use a person-centred approach in their work
Make the wellbeing, achievement, and progress of your pupils central to everything that you plan and do
Have the determination and energy to bring about continuous improvement.
