We are seeking a motivated individual to join the Public Health team, working on Health Protection locally. The post holder will work with a range of teams and services to deliver health protection objectives, and lead a team of practitioners. There are key work themes: preparedness response and communicable disease control. The post holder must be able to demonstrate their ability to work with multi-disciplinary/multi-agency teams of diverse individuals and be able to manage conflicting perspectives. Key working relationships that the post holder will be expected to establish and maintain, both internally and externally of ABUHB, include fellow Public Health team members, other ABUHB departments, Public Health Wales, other Health Boards, and Local Authorities. There may be times when the post holder will be expected to work with, engage and/or communicate with members of the public.
Main duties of the job
Preparedness - ensure the Health Board has robust plans and protocols for current and future threats to public health. including planning, facilitating and participating in exercises and training, in partnership with EPRR colleagues, to ensure relevant teams are familiar and trained to deliver incident plans.
Response - support acute response to any public health incident. This includes attending IMTs/OCTs, working as part of the Health Board response, and deputising for the Consultant in Public Health where appropriate. Recent examples include the Gwent measles outbreak, and the Infected Blood Inquiry report response. The post holder will be expected to manage as part of a multi-disciplinary team the identification, prevention, control and response to infectious and non-infectious threats to the local population. This may include establishing situational awareness, surveillance, mobilising vaccinations or testing in partnership with relevant clinical teams, supporting contact tracing, and engagement with relevant stakeholders.
Communicable Disease Control - have oversight of health protection workstreams, leading on some whilst also supporting practitioner-led work eg Hepatitis B and C elimination vaccination equity sexually transmitted infections. This will require close working with clinical teams, good project management, and providing progress reports to senior management team as required.
Line management -provide line management to senior public health specialists.
