Site information HMP Thameside is a local category B resettlement prison in the Thamesmead area of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, South-East London and is situated next to HMPs Belmarsh. Thameside is London's only private prison and can currently hold 1232 convicted and remand male prisoners. A new-build prison, successfully completed in March 2012, Serco has run the facility since it opened. The prison quickly and safely responds to the needs of the custodial population within the heart of London. What the role entails As a Business Teacher at HMP Thameside, you will play a crucial role in helping our learners develop their business acumen and gain further skills in how to successfully set up and run a business. You will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective lessons, tailoring your teaching to meet the needs of each individual learner. The business curriculum area sits in a small team led by an experienced Hub Manager to support you with your continuous professional development. The business team fits within the wider department of four Hub Managers, Administration Manager, Local Education Manager and approximately 30 staff. This is a full-time, permanent role, working 37 hours per week over 4.5 days (Monday - Thursday 8am to 5pm with a 1pm finish on a Friday.) Out of this, you will be working with a maximum of 12 learners at any time for 23 to 26 hours. The remaining 11 to 14 hours include administration/preparation time. All planning and marking are done on site within the working hours and there is not a requirement to complete any additional extra-curricular activities apart from within your working day. Responsibilities Develop and deliver high-quality lessons in how to run your own business. Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation. Assess learner needs and develop individualized learning plans. Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback. Support learners in achieving their SFEDI (Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative) qualifications. Teaching the SFEDI business course. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the best possible outcomes for all learners. Stay up to date with curriculum changes and best practices in education. Skills, experience and qualifications To be effective in the role of Business Teacher, you will need to: Hold a teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months. (NB: applicants with appropriate skills and experience might be considered if they are committed to completing their teaching qualification within the first year of employment.) Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) Remuneration and Benefits: Successful candidates will be offered a salary of between £29,047 to £38,124 per annum, plus FTE £5000 London Weighting Allowance payment, dependent on your level of qualifications and experience.
