Job Description
* Plan and assign Technician teams to meet requirements of a test. Line manage the technicians. Develop and motivate staff to ensure they achieve maximum performance. Provide feedback ensuring it is accurate, objective and helpful.
* Coordinate with the lead trial engineer to understand support requirements and deliverables.
* Own development and training options of their team.
* Co-chair daily stand-up meetings with the Programmes Manager to direct daily activities.
* Lead vehicle preparation for track tests by supervising fitment of measurement equipment, sensors, data acquisition systems, and other test equipment such as brake valves, fuel meters etc. as required by the test programme.
* Ability to drive the vehicle to the required procedures on the various on and off-road facilities.
* Monitor, collect and record test data from the measurement or data acquisition equipment.
* Work side by side with customers, users and/or the approving Authority during tests as required.
* Support the Programmes Manager with all Health, Safety & Security concerns including recording and organising LOLER and PUWER registers.
* Be responsible for laboratory/workshop equipment, maintaining a clean and safe workplace. Oversee housekeeping and suitability/availability of workshop tools, equipment and expendables. Drive towards a “5S” controlled workshop.
* Directing Technicians to maintain on-site vehicles to a safe standard.
* Continually seek ways to improve the business and align your colleagues to this activity.
* Coach, share knowledge and train internal and external personnel.
* Be responsible for maintaining a working environment in accordance with health and safety standards and manage personnel in the workshop to use the correct PPE in general and work specific tasks.
* Act in accordance with the code of conduct for UTAC group staff at all times.
* Adaptability to situations and a willingness to work beyond the job description on occasion (i.e. driving test vehicles, manual handling).
Qualifications
Experience
Essential
* Vehicle testing (on or off road) or maintenance.
* LOLER and PUWER.
* Experience supervising a technical/maintenance staff within a workshop environment.
Desirable
* Electronics and wiring (soldering, circuitry).
* Military vehicle experience.
* Vehicle network and comms systems (i.e. CAN).
Qualifications
* Served an engineering apprenticeship related to motor vehicles or have technical competence equivalent to ONC or higher (desirable).
* Full UK Drivers licence – additional categories (HGV, PSV desirable).

* Solid verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

* Flexibility to travel inside and outside UK as and when required. There is likely to be 30% of work completed off site within the UK.
Essential requirements:
* Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check.
* Full UK driving licence.
Owing to the sensitive nature of the works involved in these specialist defence projects, candidates will be required to hold, or be able to hold, valid security clearance (SC) and in order to do so will need to be:
* British National (residency for the last 5 years).
* Hold a UK Passport.
