Job overview
The post holder will work within a range of clearly defined occupational policies and:
1. Ensure a safe, evidence-based and cost-effective medicines management service is provided by Prescribing Support Technicians.
2. Support multi-disciplinary working and the development of Medicines Management Services.
3. Develop, implement, and monitor standards for Medicines Management Services.
4. Lead the delivery of the Cost Reduction Plans for primary care medicines.
5. Support the quality and safety requirements in relation to Medicines Management.
6. Act as a role model and lead the training and development for Prescribing Support Technicians.
Main duties of the job
Managerial:
1. Responsible for development, motivation and management of Prescribing Support (Pharmacy) Technicians.
2. Support Prescribing Advisors to provide Medicines Management Services.
3. Oversee the provision of Prescribing Support Technician Medicines Management Services.
Education and Training:
1. Provide, organise and plan Medicines Management training for Prescribing Support Technicians.
2. Participate in induction of new prescribing team staff.
3. Promote medicines management and patient safety.
Communication:
1. Communicate effectively with Practice staff and patients.
2. Undertake therapeutic switches from clinical records.
3. Monitor performance against clinical board prescribing cost reduction plans.
Physical Skills:
1. Ability to use GP prescribing systems.
2. Use prescribing information systems to produce graphs and reports.

Qualifications
* Membership of relevant professional Association
* Management or Leadership Qualification
* Quality improvement methodology training
Experience
* Extensive experience of Primary care medicines management.
* Experience of working in different pharmacy sectors.
* Experience of communicating to a variety of healthcare professionals.
Skills
* Organisational and time management ability.
* Ability to influence and negotiate.
* Good understanding of operation of pharmacy services.
