The post holder will contribute to providing a compassionate, sensitive and inclusive infant feeding service to the families within the Hull and East Yorkshire area (that covers Hull University Teaching Hospital). They will display warmth and communicate effectively with families to deliver a high-quality infant feeding support service.
They will work as part of a team to promote, protect and sustain best practice in relation to infant feeding across maternity services. This will include offering additional advanced support to families in an inpatient and outpatient environment.
The job holder will act as a role model for others, working supportively and in collaboration with health professionals and services across Hull and East Yorkshire.

The post holder will work as part of a team utilizing the following skills to enable them to offer advanced support to our families:
· Exhibit compassionate advanced communication skills
· establish supportive and nurturing relationships with families to provide clinical expertise for parents with breastfeeding and other infant feeding related concerns.
· guide conversations, actively listen and address families’ concerns about infant feeding with honesty and compassion, in order to build trust and effectively impart public health messages..
· To maintain and develop in depth specialist knowledge
· undertake/maintain additional training in relation to infant feeding when the opportunity arises, for example additional UNICEF BFI courses and Frenulotomy training and be prepared to work towards this in a timely manner.
· Use advanced knowledge to make assessments and advise on a range of complex ongoing infant feeding issues which require analysis, investigation, decision-making and solutions,
· Oversee the day to day workload priorities, planning and provision of care by the infant feeding team in the absence of the infant feeding lead midwife.
· Support the operation of a direct referral service for complex infant feeding problems
· Manage own workload and escalate any concerns.
