Pharmacy Support Worker Store & Distribution
* Will work in the dispensary and procurement & distribution (P&D) areas of the Inpatient Pharmacy.
* Will assist in coordinating the safe and accurate distribution of medicines to patients, wards, departments, and other users within Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT).
* Will follow all legal and departmental practices including Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) guidelines, lifting and handling regulations and all trust policies and procedures.
* Will be expected to contribute to the development of pharmaceutical services, and to promote the highest standards of professional practice, whilst always observing the "Statement on Professional Conduct" issued by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
* To work towards achieving a General Pharmaceutical Council Accredited Pharmacy Support worker qualification within one year, as part of the new requirements for education and training of Pharmacy support staff.
* Majority of work carried out is done standing and includes occasional lifting of heavy items. There will be exposure to potentially hazardous working conditions including handling of cytotoxic drugs and various other agents under COSHH regulations.
Main duties of the job
* Concentration when receiving, storing and issuing medicines to minimise the risk of errors.
* To work in a timely manner with efficiency and accuracy.
* Working in a busy procurement and distribution area dealing with suppliers and delivery personnel and hospital drivers.
* Prioritising work and communicating supply problems to pharmacy and hospital staff.
* Frequent lifting of packages and ward boxes, following strict moving and handling procedures.
* Working at ward level with occasional contact with patients that may cause emotional distress.
* Handling frequent interruptions to answer the telephone to deal with enquiries.
* Majority of work carried out is done standing for long periods of the day.

Person Specification
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
* Sound Educational Background or Recent course attendance and qualification received
* A GPhC recognised qualification (or equivalent) in Pharmaceutical Services (or willingness to undertake this qualification which will be funded by the trust)
EXPERIENCE
* Recent employment in Pharmacy environment or Hospital environment
SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
* Ability to travel to other sites.
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
* Ability to work to Standard Operating Procedures accurately and in a timely fashion
* To have a clean and tidy appearance
* Ability to work and communicate well within a team
* To be courteous with all customers, both internal and external, including members of the public and other healthcare professionals
* Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner (verbal and written)
* Speaking to patients and pharmacy staff face-to-face and on the telephone
* To be literate & numerate
