Job overview
We are looking to appoint one full-time Consultant Breast Radiologist post based at the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The post includes programmed activities in symptomatic breast and general radiology. We can also support another subspecialty interest. We need to fill posts in paediatrics, head and neck, neurology, and cardiothoracic radiology.
The post has arisen because of expansion of the service. The successful candidate will join a team of 30 consultant radiologists to help deliver Diagnostic Imaging Services to the Trust and local commissioners. Candidates are required to have a subspecialty interest in Breast imaging and associated intervention.
There has been considerable recent investment in the department including the development of a dedicated Breast Unit on the New QEII Hospital site. This purpose-built unit opened in June 2015, deals with approximately 400 breast cancers annually. Currently there are 4 breast radiologists supporting 3 breast surgeons. There are 7 radiographers trained in mammography and two competent in performing breast ultrasound. A successful vacuum assisted biopsy service has also been introduced.
The department can be flexible in its approach and support a candidate who wishes to maintain experience in general radiology or another subspecialty interest whilst fulfilling the breast sessional commitments of the post. The Lister Hospital site is fully accredited for training with 12 ST Trainee.
Main duties of the job
The workload of the successful candidate would be approximately that recommended by the Royal College of Radiologists. The successful candidate would also play a role in teaching and developing skill mix within the Unit and participate in the MDT meetings.
