A Quality Inspector in a heavy manufacturing setting is responsible for reviewing products and materials during manufacturing to ensure they meet company requirements. The duties include measuring objects against intended physical specifications, running quality tests, and identifying defects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Determines quality and reliability standards by studying drawings and formulas; verifying specifications with engineering staff.
2. Identifies raw material conditions by collecting samples; conducting inspections and physical tests of materials.
3. Identifies in-process product condition by collecting samples during the production process; conducting in-process inspections and physical tests.
4. Determines disposition of finished product by collecting, classifying, analyzing, and interpreting production and quality data; judging product acceptability in comparison to specifications.
5. Determines acceptability of rework by conducting inspections and physical tests of reworked product.
6. Documents finished product status by recording and summarizing raw materials, in-process, and finished-product inspection and physical test data; updating quality assurance database.
7. Maintains product quality documentation system by writing or rewriting quality assurance procedures.
8. Maintains quality assurance operations by following quality assurance policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
9. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Education and Experience:
1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Expert knowledge of quality expectations and standards.
3. Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints.
4. General understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and air systems.
5. General understanding of welding and weld quality.
6. General understanding of paint process and quality.
