In Project Controls, our goal is to provide the right insights and recommendations to influence the execution of the projects and maximize value to both our customer and GE. This requires the right rigor around schedule and cost management processes to deliver projects on-time and within budget.
This role is potentially open to project controls position too (cost on top of planning), subject to skillset and appetite for this evolution.
Job Description
The candidate should be knowledgeable on P6, with good dynamics and communication/coordination capabilities, very comfortable with site construction environment (hands-on), also acquainted with electrical substations, at least AC substations. Knowledge on HVDC converter station would be a plus.
The Project Site Planner is a member of the project core team:
* Owns & drives the project construction execution schedule to maximize results, facilitating delivery of the project on time, within budget, in conformity with the contract whilst managing customer expectations.
* Part of the Project Controls function and is expected to manage project schedules in accordance with the established global process, tools, metrics, and operating rhythms.
* Located at site 5 days per week.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
* The successful candidate will provide site schedule status to the Site Manager & site team, Project Lead Planner & PM, from site establishment, earth works, civil, erection of electrical & mechanical, up to commissioning and handover.
* Develops and maintains the construction & commissioning schedule by integrating inputs from all functions, units, and third parties contributing to the project.
* Ensures proper linkages in schedule to show all interdependencies between contributing parties, logic sequence, execution strategy, resources constraints etc.
* Develops detailed L4/L5 schedule and tracking mechanism on key commodities (concrete, cable pulling etc.) for daily site coordination meetings.
* Ensures consistency of site level of detail with the P6 general time schedule.
* Ensures periodic schedule updates through the entire construction & commissioning phase obtaining inputs from all project contributors.
* Drives and challenges progress, agrees forecast and develops mitigations/catch-up plans.
* Ensures schedule analysis through various means (S curve, commodity curve, OTD, Say/Do ratio, over planning, resource loading, productivity...) to determine project schedule trends and related risks & opportunities.
* Provides evidence to PM to advocate for support as appropriate.
* Provides weekly site look ahead aligned with contract schedule, clearly communicating potential and real risks and driving project priorities.
* Identifies engineering & procurement prerequisites and helps anticipate blockers with wider project team and third parties.
* Provides contractually required customer site reporting and communicates directly with customers on scheduling matters.
* Generates "what if" scenarios to optimize execution and works with project teams to evaluate feasibility.
* Aligns with cost controlling function to ensure clear alignment between cost and schedule.
* Maintains a register of potential schedule and cost risks in collaboration with the Risk Manager.
* Supports change order analysis with schedule analytics and forecasts.
* Loads resources into the project schedule as appropriate.
* Supports disputes and analysis of claims.
* Is the key communication player, teaming with the Site Manager, to ensure all parties are informed about project site activities and priorities.
Educational / Experience Requirements
* Degree qualified either in engineering or project management with demonstrated years of experience in planning management, including experience in electrical substations site activities.
* Excellent interpersonal skills in a site construction environment, good communicator, anticipation and problem-solving aptitude, team spirit, and resilience.
* Analytical skills that contribute to decision making.
* Application of planning control principles (WBS, critical path, progress).
* Application of planning tools (Primavera and/or MS-project).
* Autonomous and reliable with customer focus.
