Main duties of the job
Southampton Children's Hospital Education team and E1 Ocean Ward are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated nurse who is interested in providing clinical support and education within the clinical environment. This is a 1 year fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. We care for children from across the regional cardiac network and carry out surgical and interventional procedures here in Southampton.
You will work alongside our friendly, supportive education and nursing teams to facilitate learning and practice development of registered and non-registered staff and students working on this specialist ward. You will also be involved in the planning and delivery of our regional cardiac education programme.

What you'll do:
* Working with the Ward Manager, you'll be responsible for:
* Supervising the professional work of nursing staff on the ward.
* Encouraging effective working relationships.
* Providing good leadership and support to staff on the ward.
* Participating in supporting the ward manager in their absence ensuring all leave of absence is recorded correctly.
What we're looking for:
We'd love to hear from children's nurses with experience of working in a leadership capacity, who can evidence ongoing education and qualifications appropriate to this specialty. You must be able to demonstrate a compassionate approach to patient care and the public, as well as the ability to meet robust clinical operational demands.
As well as the relevant NMC registration and evidence of proven clinical ability in paediatric nursing, we're looking for:
* Evidence of ongoing personal development.

* Good planning and organisation skills.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to support and motivate a team to provide safe care of the highest quality to all our patients and their relatives.
The Children's Hospital offers fantastic training and development opportunities, giving you the best possible platform to achieve the career you want. Applicants should have post-qualifying experience in a relevant specialty, which includes working in an acute paediatric environment. The applicant will be expected to show good coordination and leadership skills participating in ward rounds, attending HUDDLEs, and supporting staff. The flexibility to work the full range of shift patterns within a 24-hour period is required.
