An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic engineer to join a large team providing maintenance, test, inspection, and repair of Medical Devices.
The ideal candidate will have a technical background gained in healthcare as a technician or test and repair engineer. They may have skills in electrical, electronic, computing, hydraulic, and mechanical engineering, be suitably qualified, and have experience in the use, maintenance, and management of medical devices for healthcare delivery. However, relevant experience gained in other industries will be considered, and training will be provided. They will have an open and enquiring mind, an analytical and structured approach to problem solving, good communication and reporting skills, and a demonstrable enthusiasm and commitment to the safe and optimal use of medical devices in healthcare.
Main duties of the job
* Provide a technical support service to the renal haemodialysis and reverse osmosis units at the Northern General Hospital, the satellite units at Chesterfield and Barnsley, and in patients' homes.
* Work under own initiative and organize complex programs of work as part of a team, but often working alone in isolated environments.
* Work in accordance with the departmental ISO 9001 quality system.
* Ensure all servicing tools and test equipment are functional and organize repair and maintenance as required.
* Participate in overtime duties as required.
* Participate in an out-of-hours emergency on-call service.
* Typical medical devices include lasers, ultrasound, gamma cameras, anaesthetic machines, ventilators, renal dialysis, and other types of complex life support devices.
* Work in environments where patients are undergoing treatment or in a patient's home; confidentiality is paramount.
* Participate in in-house and external courses and seminars.
* Undertake continuing professional development, maintain a professional portfolio, and commit to the training and development of other professional colleagues.

Qualifications
* Vocational degree in clinical technology (engineering) or HND, HNC with extensive work experience to satisfy the requirements of the register of Clinical Technologists.
* Medical Device Specialist training courses.
Experience
* Extensive post-basic experience in the relevant branch of clinical technology.
* Specialist knowledge acquired through in-depth experience of relevant aspects of the subject area.
* Experience on a wide range of electro-medical devices including fault finding and repair.
* Experience of scheduled maintenance programmes and in meeting targets.
* Experience of working within a Quality System.
* Experience of teaching and training.
Skills and Knowledge
* A general understanding of equipment management within NHS hospitals.
* The ability to work under pressure and meet targets.
* Ability to plan workloads.
* Awareness of the principles of a formal Quality System.
* Experience of ‘hands-on’ maintenance of medical devices.
