Main duties of the job
1. Venepuncture, handling of specimens.
2. Undertaking diagnostic tests and screening procedures within agreed practice protocols ( ECG and cervical cytology).
3. Immunisation and vaccination of children, adults and travellers.
4. Ear examination and syringing.
5. Wound care, dressings and removal of sutures.
6. First aid and management of emergencies burns, haemorrhage, shock cardiac arrest. Triage of injuries.
7. Toprovide appropriate signposting to the relevant clinician or externalorganisation whilst ensuring that the patient receives appropriate ongoing care
8. Topromote high standards of patient care by the application of a systematictriage approach and undertake comprehensive holistic assessments ofperson-centred care needs
9. Toensure that all necessary arrangements are completed promptly and in a safemanner
10. Tomaintain the confidentiality of matters relating to patients and patient carein accordance with the NMC guidelines
11. Tocommunicate complex and sensitive information concerning a patients medicalcondition effectively to patients/carers, recognising that sometimes there arebarriers to understanding
12. Tounderstand practice and local policies for substance abuse and addictivebehaviour, referring patients appropriately
13. Torecognise, triage and refer patients presenting with mental health needs
14. Tosupport the clinical team with all safeguarding matters in accordance withlocal and national policies

22. New patient checks.
23. Toprovide appropriate signposting to the relevant clinician or externalorganisation whilst ensuring that the patient receives appropriate ongoing care
24. Topromote high standards of patient care by the application of a systematictriage approach and undertake comprehensive holistic assessments ofperson-centred care needs
25. Tomaintain clear, concise and accurate documentation within the systems provided
26. Toensure that all necessary arrangements are completed promptly and in a safemanner
27. Tomaintain effective communication with multidisciplinary teams to the benefit ofthe patient
28. Tomaintain the confidentiality of matters relating to patients and patient carein accordance with the NMC guidelines

30. Tosupport and advise patients on the promotion of health, prevention ofill-health and the self-management of their health within their limitations

32. Toensure that care given is supported by the best available evidence and localpolicies and procedures
33. Todeliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
34. Tounderstand practice and local policies for substance abuse and addictivebehaviour, referring patients appropriately
35. Touphold the confidentiality of all records/information held by LusonSurgery. This duty lasts indefinitelyand will continue after you leave your employment at this practice. All information which identifies individualsin whatever form should be managed locally with the Confidentiality Policy andin general in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018
36. Tomaintain professional competency whilst remaining current and in date for NMCrevalidation
37. Toensure read codes are used effectively
38. Torecognise, triage and refer patients presenting with mental health needs
39. Tosupport the clinical team with all safeguarding matters in accordance withlocal and national policies
Inaddition to the primary responsibilities, the lead practice nurse may berequested to:
40. Ordering of supplies and equipment.
41. Supportjunior members of the nursing team, providing guidance when necessary
42. Toassist in screening procedure undertaken by the practice
43. Assistin the management of patients with chronic illnesses
44. Supportand participate in shared learning within the practice
45. Participatein the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structuredapproach, root cause analysis (RCA)
46. Support the practice team with the reviewing andimplementation of practice policies and protocols, ensuring conformance toextant legislation
