Main Responsibilities:
* The Room Manager has a duty of care for all children placed in their care and overall management within the room.
* The Room Manager/Third in Charge is responsible for the overall management within the room in order to ensure the legal and curriculum requirements are met in line with Inspire Montessori Schools policies and procedures.
* Ensuring all staff prepare and supervise suitable activities to create and develop a stimulating environment to provide a high level of quality childcare while maintaining a professional and positive outcome for both children and staff.
* Communicating with the management regarding the activities and progress in the room and coordinating the relevant short and medium-term planning in line with the business needs to meet the curriculum requirements.
* Good communication skills are imperative, involving listening, questioning, and understanding and responding to what is being communicated by children, young people, and those caring for them.
* Working as part of a multi-agency team and having a clear understanding of your role and the role of other professionals.
* Sharing information with other professionals in a timely manner and working together for the safety and well-being of the child.
* Stepping up to a Deputy Head role in the absence due to holiday, training, or sickness.
* Having a working knowledge of occupancy and need within the rooms and developing marketing for the nursery as agreed by the management and Directors.
* Developing key positive relationships with all partners.
* Developing recommendations and actions from internal and external audits.
* Supporting the management team with the coordination and implementation of the relevant short and medium-term planning in line with the business needs to meet the curriculum requirements.
* A good knowledge of child development is essential to ensure that all the children’s individual needs are fully met.
* Ensuring all staff complete the necessary tracking of the children in a timely manner.
* Creating a positive and engaging environment following Early Years & Montessori principles.
* Maintaining excellent and sound hygiene practices.
The SENCO has responsibility for:
* Ensuring liaison with parents and other professionals in respect of children with special educational needs (SEN).
* Advising and supporting other practitioners in the setting.
* Ensuring that Individual Education Plans are in place.
* Ensuring that relevant background information about individual children with special educational needs is collected, recorded, and updated.
* Making applications to the Early Years Inclusion Panel (EYIP) about individual children with more complex special educational needs.
Main Duties:
* Keeping a profile of children with special educational needs.
* Observing and supporting children as appropriate on the special educational needs profile.
* Supporting and advising Key Workers, Learning Support Assistants, etc., as appropriate, in how to include children’s needs in the setting.
* Liaising with settings and schools (reception) including assessment centres (Acorn), Children and Family Centres, etc.
* Liaising with other professionals from outside services and external agencies e.g. Area SENCOs, Pre-school Education Team Teachers, Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, etc.
* Arranging, organizing, and reviewing support for individual children.
* Keeping Key Workers and Learning Support Assistants up to date with SEN and inclusion issues and encouraging personal development through courses and INSET.
* Meeting with parents regularly to maintain good relationships and to keep parents informed about their child’s progress.
* Taking the lead in managing provision for children at early years action, early years action plus and for children with Statements.
* Responding to changes in legislation/practice from government and the Local Authority.
* Organizing INSET relevant for staff in the early years setting.
* Reviewing individual children’s IEPs termly as appropriate.
* Writing detailed education reports about individual children for other professionals and parents (including Early Years Inclusion Panel applications, requests for statutory assessment, etc.).
* Reviewing statements via annual and interim review meetings.
* Meeting at least termly with the Area SENCO.
* Developing and sharing knowledge of resources (equipment, books, materials, and knowledge of possible strategies).
