This role is an exciting opportunity to work in the Gastroenterology Team at the Homerton Healthcare working with viral hepatitis and Liver Disease.
Applications for this post are invited from experienced nurses who have experience in viral Hepatitis and Liver Disease; previous experience of Liver disease is essential. We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking individual who is flexible, self-motivated, a good team player and leader.
The Liver Nurse Specialist role provides an opportunity for a registered nurse who has experience and knowledge in gastroenterology/liver disease and is motivated to develop a nurse-led service for patients with liver disease and other gastroenterology.
The post holder will carry responsibility for either a defined case load or offering “highly specialist service advice.” This will include setting standards of care, the assessment of care needs, and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care.
Main duties of the job
* To undertake a clinical assessment of selected new patients who attend the Viral Hepatitis Clinic.
* To run a nurse-led clinic for patients with viral hepatitis requiring antiviral treatment.
* To work with the gastroenterology team to educate patients and their families/carers about liver disease and help patients make informed decisions about their care.
* To identify risk factors and discuss with individual patients how these can be modified.
* Recognise changes in patients’ condition that require the intervention of others and refer on as appropriate.
* To support, assist, and encourage the multi-disciplinary team in planning patient care, by the provision of new and innovative models of case management.
* To act as an effective role model and resource to nursing staff, especially in the field of gastroenterology/liver disease.
* To work alongside the Lead Liver Nurse in the development of the Liver CNS service.
* To develop a Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) CNS clinic.
