Overall purpose of the role:
To be responsible for managing the English Department and liaising with SLT, HODs, HOYs, SENDCO, subject staff, and support staff. You will strategically plan for the development of areas demonstrating impact on learning and progress of pupils, aiming to narrow the achievement gaps for all groups of learners through:
* Securing high-quality teaching that directly impacts pupil progress
* Curriculums that facilitate the progress of all learners
* Ensuring responsive interventions across your subject
* Working with colleagues to maximize positive work ethic and a love of learning for your subjects
Essential Criteria
Education:
* Qualified Teacher Status
* Relevant Degree
* Experience of teaching in the 11-16 sector
Experience:
* Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize
* A passion for English demonstrated in the classroom
* Acting as a role model for pupils and staff by setting high personal and professional standards
* Motivating and inspiring pupils, staff, parents, governors, and the wider community
* Dealing sensitively with people and resolving conflicts
* Using a variety of leadership styles in different situations and understanding their likely effects
* Demonstrating impact of teaching and learning on progress
* Committed to providing high-quality feedback to all learners and leading by example in this area
Knowledge and understanding:
* Understanding of current educational issues
* Strategies for raising standards
* Effective learning and teaching strategies
* Knowledge of the Secondary Curriculum
* Effective use of data
* Effective use of ICT
* Aware of whole school issues
* Ability to translate vision into practice
* Developed partnerships with stakeholders
* Excellent subject knowledge and awareness of the latest initiatives in that subject
* Able to deliver GCSE English
