The Department of Architecture and Landscape at Kingston University London is delighted to invite expressions of interest from strong researchers to join our PhD Programme from October 2025.
Our internal deadline for draft applications is 14 November 2024.
Internal interviews will be held from w/c 25 November 2024 onwards.
The Department of Architecture and Landscape considers the built environment a register of human thinking and occupation over time. Our landscapes, cities, and buildings serve both as a laboratory and as an archive. We investigate histories, practices, technologies, and speculative futures, with a distinctive social and political engagement embedded in our critical and embodied practices.

Sustainable Design
1. Environmental / Zero Carbon design and retrofit of buildings
2. Education for sustainability
Urbanism
1. Engaged Practices
2. Participatory planning
3. Irregular Urbanism
4. Rapid Emergent Urbanisation
5. Curating Public Space
Contemporary Critical Practice in Landscape and Architecture
1. Historical and philosophical investigations of architecture, its traditions, relationships with other arts, and cultural role
2. Heritage and building in historic contexts Methodologies
3. Reflexive and responsive
4. Contextualising tacit knowledge contained in practice
5. Tectonics as a site for innovation
6. Representation as a site for discovery and as a repository of knowledge
