Job overview
The Estates department at Furness General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical and mechanical engineers, creative building craftspersons, and dedicated support staff.
We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Painter & Decorator.
You should be experienced, time served and suitably qualified in painting and decoration, ideally on a commercial/industrial level.
Main duties of the job
This is a highly rewarding role. Working under the Building Team Leader, the successful candidate will embark on a challenging adventure, safely, efficiently, and with patient and staff safety at the heart of their focus.
Working as part of a team, and individually, you will be required to carry out decoration and building finishes maintenance within acute and community NHS properties.
The successful candidate must be able to self-motivate, work relatively unsupervised, and be a good communicator on all levels. Flexible working will be required where you will assist other trades and undertake other tasks to maintain the building services.
A healthcare, commercial, or industrial background would be advantageous but not essential - as specific training will be provided.
This post is based at Furness General Hospital in Barrow in Furness.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, and Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe.
FGH and the RLI have a range of general hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Full apprenticeship or equivalent approved training.
* NVQ3, BTEC or equivalent
* Driving licence (B)
* Working at height related qualification
* City and guild qualifications in relevant subjects
* Qualification in specialist coatings
Experience
* Experience in working in a commercial/industrial setting
* Experience of safe systems of work
* Experience of working within healthcare premises/care homes
* Working at height training and experience
Personal Qualities
* Ability to comply with trust policies
* Ability to travel between the trust sites as required.
* To demonstrate flexibility in approach to work patterns.
Skills & Personal Attributes
* Evidence of good communication skills on all levels.
* Ability to deal with information sensitively and confidentially
