Salary: £33,366 - £37,035
Hours: 36.25 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Location: Tootal Building, 54 Oxford Road, Manchester
Advert closing date: Thursday 6th March
Your role:
This is your chance to be at the heart of Greater Manchester’s leadership team, supporting the people shaping the region’s future. As part of the Group Chief Executive’s business support team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of senior operations, from managing schedules to coordinating high-level meetings and communications.
This isn’t just an admin role it’s about making things happen. You’ll work alongside the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and senior leaders, helping to deliver essential projects that impact transport, health, social care, and economic development. You’ll manage diaries, prepare briefings, liaise with key stakeholders, and ensure that the Chief Executive’s office runs efficiently.
Every day is different. One moment you’ll be scheduling a crucial strategy meeting; the next, you’ll be responding to urgent requests from senior officials. You’ll need to think on your feet, solve problems quickly, and keep everything organised in a fast-moving environment.
If you’re highly organised, proactive, and love working behind the scenes to make things happen, this is the role for you. You’ll gain valuable insight into how local government operates at the highest level, build strong professional networks, and be part of a team that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
About you:
You’re a natural organiser who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Managing multiple priorities, meeting tight deadlines, and keeping everything running smoothly comes naturally to you.
You’ll have experience handling administration and diary management at a senior level, with strong attention to detail and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Whether it’s managing inboxes, preparing reports, or coordinating meetings, you’ll do it with professionalism and efficiency.
Communication is key. You’ll be engaging with senior leaders, government officials, and external stakeholders, so you need to be confident, articulate, and diplomatic. Building relationships, understanding different perspectives, and handling sensitive information with discretion will be central to your role.
Experience in a political or public sector setting is beneficial but not essential. What matters most is your ability to adapt, solve problems, and stay one step ahead. You’ll be proactive, anticipating needs and suggesting improvements to processes.
Above all, you’ll be passionate about Greater Manchester and excited to be part of a team that’s driving positive change. If you want to work in an environment where your skills and initiative are valued, we’d love to hear from you.
