LOCUM CONSULTANT DERMATOLOGIST
We are seeking two enthusiastic Locum Consultant Dermatologists to join our Dermatology Department in our teaching Trust.
The new post holders will join a Team of 5 Consultant Dermatologists, 1 Plastic Surgery colleague, and a dedicated nursing and administration team based at the Birmingham Skin Centre, City Hospital. The successful candidates will join a well-established self-contained department with an outpatient area, skin theatre and minor procedures area, phototherapy suite, Cutaneous Allergy Unit and a regional Laser unit. Specialist services available in the department include dermatological surgery, laser services, tertiary cutaneous allergy, paediatric dermatology, skin cancer, vulval dermatology, and a biologics service.
Main duties of the job
The Trust is committed to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and has strong links to the University of Birmingham and Health Education West Midlands with the Dermatology department having both junior doctors in training, and medical students. The department is involved in a variety of research activities with ample opportunities to contribute to these, or initiate relevant dermatology research projects.
The Trust is a key partner with the local commissioning group and the local authorities in the Right Care Right Here programme, which seeks to deliver a redevelopment of local health services. The programme includes one of the largest investments in the UK with new facilities in both the acute and community sectors. Included within this is the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.

Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opens in 2024 and will provide care to our local population from first class, purpose-built premises.As a result, the base of this role may change to MMUH from 2024 (or beyond). Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The new appointees are expected to have a broad-based dermatology background. The jobs are flexible, and have been structured to provide surgical sessions which may be inclusive of Laser surgery for those with expertise in this area. Additionally the job provides general dermatology, paediatric dermatology, skin cancer and other clinics according to sub-specialty areas of interest.
It is expected that the post holders will have or will develop a subspecialty interest to complement the department and it is anticipated that the successful applicants will also have a well-developed interest in teaching, training and research.
Applicants must be included on the GMC’s Specialist Register in Dermatology, or within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT or CESR, at the time of interview.

Person specification
Qualifications:
* Must be on the UK Specialist Register in Dermatology (or CCT/ CESR expected within 6 months from the date of interview)
Clinical Experience:
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Dermatology
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the management of acute medical emergencies
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients
* Special interest that complements the existing consultants
Management and Administrative Experience:
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
Clinical Effectiveness:
* Experience of conducting clinical audit
Teaching and Training experience:
* Ability to teach clinical skills to medical and nursing staff and other disciplines.
* Formal training in teaching
Research, Innovation and Service Improvement Experience:
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
* Publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals in the last five years.
* Evidence of having undertaken original research
Other Requirements:
* An understanding of the current NHS environment, particularly in relation to reforms, initiatives and issues.
