Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Deputy Ward Managers to join our 24-bedded paediatric ward on a secondment basis to cover maternity leave. We welcome applications for both full-time and part-time positions. Our ward provides high-quality care for children and young people aged 0-18 years, covering general paediatrics, surgery, and orthopaedics. We also play a vital role in supporting children with long-term conditions as they transition into adult services. In addition, we work closely with a busy adjacent outpatient department, which is home to a dedicated, multidisciplinary team of paediatric nurses with expertise in oncology, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and complex care. If you're a passionate and experienced paediatric nurse looking for a leadership role within a supportive and dynamic team, we would love to hear from you Main duties of the job Strong communication skills are essential for this role. You will be responsible for facilitating and supporting clear and effective communication with the child and their family, as well as coordinating with the Children's Unit, Emergency Department, and the wider multidisciplinary team. This includes liaising with external services such as GPs, Health Visitors, Children's Community Nurses, Social Services, and therapy teams to ensure seamless and well-coordinated care. The role also requires the ability to communicate sensitive clinical information to patients, relatives, and carers in a way that is appropriate to the child's developmental stage and level of understanding. You must be able to identify and address any barriers that may impact the individual's ability to receive and comprehend information, whether in face-to-face interactions or via telephone communication. In line with child protection responsibilities, any concerns must be promptly reported to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse, Matron, or doctor. Where necessary, you will liaise with the Named Nurse, Named Doctor, or other relevant professionals to ensure appropriate action is taken. Additionally, you will deputise for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, overseeing the coordination of care, ensuring effective communication within the ward or assessment unit, and liaising with the multidisciplinary team and other services as required.
